The Nigerian Bottling Company Ltd is lagging in their quality control department as they now chunk out defective products of popular beverage drink Schwepps bitter Lemon. This absolutely is detrimental to the consumers of their product across the country.
Recently in the Agege area of Lagos, some toxic bottles of schwepps were reported to have almost caused a mother and her three year old girl their lives. The three year old daughter Adedayo Aderanti (Pseudonym) was said to have been running temperature and dehydrated and the mother in a bid to salvage the situation made quickly to get Schwepps bitter lemon. Recounting her ordeal, Kehinde Aderanti (Pseudonym) the mother of the three year old girl explained, “On Wednesday last week my daughter was feeling feverish, she was so hot and feeling weak and I got really confused, because their father works in Kaduna. All this happened around 7.30pm that night.
I bought two bottles of Schwepps bitter lemon, because I was thirsty myself. I emptied the drink in a cup and gave my daughter the drink. I gave her other first aid treatments from a closed by pharmacist. Sincerely my brother, I got really carried away with my daughter’s health that i lost appetite for food, I didn’t even remember to take my own drink.”
The 32 year old mother of two continued, “the next morning to my amazement, my daughter’ became very hot, she started to stool and nauseate. I got scared when my daughter’s eyes started to change, she was practically dying. I was broke; it was my neighbor that borrowed me cash to take my girl to the hospital…
When i got home that afternoon, I opened my refrigerator to drink the bottle of schewpps I left. You need to see the big dirty particles that are inside the bottle…they made me poison my daughter, because I gave her the drink too and couldn’t see the content because it was night and there was no light.
Her health couldn’t have deteriorated this bad if not for the poisonous schwepps I gave her… She is still currently in admission, the federal government should help us the masses and consumers of these products, these companies are endangering our lives.’’ The mother recounted, as she breaks down tearfully.
It would be recalled that sometime in 2014 the management team at the Nigerian Consumer Protection Council (CPC), in Lagos, reportedly slammed Coca-Cola Nigeria Limited and franchisee of its various beverage products- Nigerian Bottling Company for allegedly offering toxic products for sale at the detriment of consumers across the country.
