Aminu Babangida the 37yr old son of Nigeria’s former military head of state General Ibrahim Babangida is one of the many silver spoon kids representing their family interests in Unity Bank.
He has been on the Board of Unity Bank since 2011 when he was just 35yrs old. Aminu boasts of a fat educational background,a product of Regent Business School,London and Westminster Business School London where he bagged BA in International Business and MA in International Business Management respectively.
Just recently, the Bank and CBN announced the appointment of Aminu as the the new Vice Chairman. Alhaji Aminu Babangida,is an Entrepreneur, a co-founder/Chief Executive Officer of Phoenix Energy, Abuja and Team Member of the El-Amin International School, Minna. He has also worked on the trading floor of Trafigura BV, London, UK.
Babangida was appointed to the Board of Unity Bank Plc in 2011 where he has held Chairmanship and membership positions in a number of board committees including Credit Committee, Audit Committee, Information Technology & Strategy Committee, etc. He attended Regents Business School, London and Westminster Business School London where he obtained a BA in International Business and MA in International Business Management respectively.
He is knowledgeable in the field of oil exploration. He is a member of the Institute of Directors (IOD) and the Bank Directors Association of Nigeria (BDAN) and has attended various local and international courses.
Worrisome to top brass of the bank and his family is the unmarried nature of Aminu.It is generally believed that he is too busy making money that he has he has forgotten to get married,insiders told us that the family now wants him to come out of his shell and take further responsibilities and be seen to be responsible like his elder brother Muhammed who is known to be in charge. Unity Bank today boasts of notable silver spoon kids, Bola Shagaya’s second son,Hakeem is also on the board of Unity Bank,ditto, Funsho Obasanjo and the son of renowned Geographer Prof Maogunje. You will recall that Intercity Bank in which IBB had majority shares and Interstate Bank in which Prof Akin Mabogunje, late first class banker cum Economist Samuel Asabia and OBJ had majority shares were part of the constituent banks that formed Unity Bank during the post consolidation era of Prof Saludo.
The present Board is chaired by Thomas Etuh. The Billionaire Agric investor who has to contend with the overbearing nature of Aminu and other silver spoon board members. Aminu’s appointment is said to be based on the Babangida family’s largest stake in the bank.
