WARRI—EX-MILITANT leaders in the Niger Delta region, Wednesday, denied the endorsement of All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate, Gen. Mohammadu Buhari (rtd) by the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND, for next month’s presidential election.
Rising from a meeting of select top ex-militant leaders in Warri, Delta State, they said: “MEND does not exist or represent the generality of all Niger Delta youths and ex-militants and it is just a mere paper hype intended to discredit our son and brother, President Goodluck Jonathan, before the eyes of the public.”
One of the ex-agitators and spokesman of the defunct Niger Delta Liberation Force, “Captain” Mark Anthony, said: “President Jonathan remains the best president Nigeria ever had and we are comfortable with him and his administration.
“Therefore, we back him in his bid for a second tenure to rule and transform Nigeria. The insecurity problem in the nation was created by opposition parties to discredit the Jonathan administration. We will not fold our arms and allow a non-existent MEND to publicly condemn and discredit President Jonathan.
“We are appealing to Nigerians to always support and give President Jonathan their votes for the growth and transformation of the nation.”
He warned those who want to turn Nigeria upside down by killing and bombing innocent people “to know that nobody has a monopoly of killings and we cannot take that from Boko Haram in this 2015 presidential election.
“We are assuring President Jonathan that our unflinching support is always with him and we urge Nigerians to give him their votes in the February polls.”
