APC Condemns Assassination Attempt On Omirin, Urges Probe of Insecurity In Ekiti

The All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State has condemned Monday night attempt on the life of Ekiti State House of Assembly Speaker, Dr Adewale Omirin. The Speaker on Monday night was saved by a good Samaritan ‎who called Omirin’s associates to break the news of attempted murder in a house where the Speaker was visiting. Quick and rapid calls to the Speaker and the police saved the day. The attackers fled when they heard police sirens racing to the scene.

Reacting to the botched attempt, APC State Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatubosun, said in a statement in Ado-Ekiti that the incident confirmed the alarm the party had raised recently on the activities of strange faces in unmarked black jeeps that have been visiting the homes of APC lawmakers at nights to attack them.

Olatubosun urged the police and DSS to investigate the matter to get to the root of the men in black jeeps that have been on the trail of APC lawmakers of late.
“We once raised the alarm that men in unmarked black jeeps visited the homes of the Deputy Speaker, Adetunji Orisalade‎; and two members representing Ikere Local Government, Hon Yomi Daramola and Hon Sunday Adu Clement same night banging at their doors. Few days later, the same jeeps with unidentified men visited the homes of Hon Peter Agidi and Hon Folorunso Ogundele with “police” invitation letters for “interaction”.
“Upon clarification from the police on the veracity of the invitation for “interaction”‎, the Police Command said such invitation did not emanate from the State Headquarters and should be ignored. This prompted our party to petition the National Security Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan, Col Sambo Dasuki (rtd) on the activities of the policemen in the Government House security team who were in 2006 indicted by the President Olusegun Obasanjo’s Presidential Security Report on Political Killings in Ekiti State‎.

“In the petition, we called Dasuki’s attention to a special request by Governor Ayo Fayose to redeploy these indicted police officers to the state to join his security team. Specifically, we listed Gbenga Timothy Joseph, who is now Fayose’s ADC‎, as one of the policemen recommended for criminal trial by Obasanjo’s security panel. Today, he and other indicted officers operate in Ekiti in the security team of the governor,” Olatubosun explained.
He called the attention of the police and DSS to the threats to the Honourable members and Speaker’s Media Aide‎ in the current House of Assembly crisis, saying Governor Fayose should be held responsible for any untoward incident against them.
