Vice President Namadi Sambo is expected to deliver the keynote address at the Heroes of The Transformation Agenda Awards holding Thursday, December 18th, at the Congress Hall of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja. According to a statement from the organisers of the awards, Mountain Top Communications, publishers of Paragon International Magazine, “It is our pleasure to have the Vice President, Architect Namadi Sambo, as Guest Speaker. The theme of his paper is Challenges, Successes and Prospects of the Transformation Agenda: Our Story. We figure that aside the President, he is the next best person to talk about the Transofrmation Agenda, which was conceived in 2011 as a veritable blueprint to rejuvenate and revitalize Nigeria’s economy, revamp infrastructure, create jobs and generate enduring happiness for all and sundry among other factors.”
The statement further revealed that the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan is the Mother of the Day while the Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Dr Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr Akinwunmi Adesina, and the Senate President, David Mark are the special guests of honour.
On the rationale behind the awards, the statement, signed by Ms Sandra Dickson, the Publisher/CEO of Mountain Top Communications, averred, “The Paragon Heroes of the Transformation Agenda Awards is designed to recognise and honour select government officials certified to have shown exceptional and robust commitment to the attainment of His Excellency, President Goodluck Jonathan’s Transformation Agenda. This agenda did not just succeed on the ingenuity of Mr. President; but by the resourceful team he put together. And, given the predilection of Nigeria not to keep proper records or honour her heroes while alive, our organisation decided to organise this award to help reward the sweat and enterprise of these government officials.”
On the choice of awardees, Dickson said, “Our commissioned research team comprising distinguished Nigerian journalists, public affairs analysts, columnists and social commentators sieved through the achievements and activities of nominees cutting across Ministries, Departments and Agencies, some members of the Executives and the National Assembly and came up with a shortlist representing the very best of Nigerian government officials.” The statement mentioned some of the awardees to include the Director General of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, Oscar Onyema; the Executive Secretary, Universal Basic Education Commission, Alhaji (Dr) Dikko Suleiman; the Executive Secretary, Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission, Mrs. Saratu A. Umar, and the Minister of Communications Technology, Mrs. Omobola Johnson. Other awardees would be unveiled at the event.
