Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has expressed deep appreciation to the people of Ibadanland for their unflinching cooperation and support for his administration in the last three and a half years, saying this has helped tremendously in the achievements so far recorded.
He stated this on Wednesday while addressing the people of Oluyole Local Government Area of the state as part of his working visit to all the 11 local government areas in Ibadanland.
The governor particularly commended the support of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Samuel Odulana Odugade I and the Olubadan-in-Council for his administration’s environmental sanitation and urban renewal programme which he said had changed the face of Ibadan from being the dirtiest city in Nigeria to a modern capital city.
He said that the removal of traders from the street within the Ibadan metropolis was part of his administration’s efforts at improving on the aesthetics of the city and making it attractive to both local and foreign investment.
Governor Ajimobi promised that his administration would continue to execute projects that would have direct impact on the lives of the people of the state.
He assured the people of Egbeda Local Government that the Iyana Church-Wakajaiye Road which had been in bad shape for a very long time would be rehabilitated very soon in order to improve the socio-economic conditions of the people of the area.
While addressing the people of Akinyele Local Government Area, the governor also promised that the Ijaiye-Iroko Road would be rehabilitated, adding that all the recognized and organized traders in the local government would be provided with interest-free loan to boost their businesses.
Governor Ajimobi opined that the general approach to the issue of stomach infrastructure by some politicians would not yield the needed result of changing the lives of the people for the better.
He explained that stomach infrastructure should be more than distributing petty things to the people to canvass votes, stressing that gainful employment which would encourage physical, mental and spiritual development of the people should be the real stomach infrastructure.
At Ona-Ara Local Government, Governor Ajimobi also promised to rehabilitate Olorunsogo-Ijebu Igbo boundary Road which had been abandoned by the immediate past administration, even as he assured that developmental efforts of his government would be extended to the council area.
