Pay us or we remove our transformers,Contractors thereaten Gov Amosun

A contractor who supplied two transformers to Ogun State Government has threatened to retrieve them over nonpayment of the agreed contract sum.

The contractor, Just Ventures Limited, alleged that the government had an agreement to pay the firm within one week of delivery of the transformers, but had yet to do so.

Speaking on behalf of the company, the Chief Operation Officer, Olalekan Lawal, said the total contract sum was N4.4m, for which they had yet to receive a dime from the government. He lamented that the debt was adversely affecting business and making it difficult for the firm to pay its workers.

“We supplied two transformers to the Ogun State Government at the rate of N4.4m. The agreement was that we will be paid within a week of delivering the transformers. One of the transformers was installed at the Alake of Egbaland’s palace, while the other was installed at the state hospital in Abeokuta since August 8, 2014.

“The transformers were procured by the state government through the ministry of special duties. We made several calls to the commissioner and all we got in return were promises. We even wrote to the Governor of Ogun State to no avail.

“We are worried because election is around the corner and we might end up not getting paid before the end of this administration. Also the debt is making it difficult for us to pay our workers’ salaries,” he said.

The company had in a letter dated September 26, 2014, appealed to the state government to pay for the supplies.

The letter, which was duly received and acknowledged by the Office of the Governor of Ogun State reads in parts, “I write to request the payment of two 500/11/0.415KVA transformers supplied to you via invoice number 002557 dated August 8, 2014. The understanding was that the payment should come within one week
