OGD speaks on Amosun’s road projects and bridges

Otunba Daniels immediate past Governor of Ogun state gave his assessment of Amosun’s interview in this week citypeople, here is his take on roads and bridges of sen Amosun

How Do You See Gov. Amosuns Road Project??? I have traversed the length and breadth of Ogun State and have not seen a single brand new road that has been done, believe me when I say so?

All the roads that are being done are merely improving on what he met. It has all been expansion .i don’t want to be misunderstood.

I have not said improving roads is something that is bad, but we should all take cognizance that all the roads being done are existing roads. In some instance, they are being extended from a 2 lane road Being expanded to 4.and where you have a 4 lane road it’s been expanded into 6.

It’s also important that people should know what I am about to say .and I am saying this as an engineer extending roads is probably no more than about 25 % of the cost of building new roads because alignment is already there ,in most instance the law has been compacted .what you are just doing is to shift the drainage, and to re-asphalt .i am a bit concerned when the road that we have already dualised, all they have done there is remove the kerb that we have done, put another kerbs then re –asphalt.

A case in point for instance is the ILLISHA-AGO IWOYE dualisation which we started. We had completed the work from the stretch from the express I illishan up until irolu. We had done the median, everything was in place we wouldn’t finish the bit from the lrolu up to AGO-IWOYE and I had thought that okay, government being a continuum they should start from where we had stopped and continue till the end. But, what they had just done in the last three and half years to where we have already done, removed the xxx ,replaced it with the same kind of xxx and re-asphalt a part of it whereas nothing has been done to the areas we left undone. I passed through the place last Thursday, the road is now terribly worse. I can’t understand it, I have the data on that road, and it’s from our comprehensive report well documented with figures.

The work on that road for instance was N1.25 million. We had done it to a stage and before I left what we were looking for was N300 million. I was shocked when I was told that the road and now been rewarded for about 8 billion naira. I just don’t understand, I don’t know much how of that has been paid ,because they hardly give information. But I went to the place 4 days ago and saw that the bridge that we done as been destroyed by them.so that they can do a new bridge.

But The Amosun Government Has Done So Many Fly over in Just 3 ½ years Across The State???? Yes, there is no doubt that they have done a number of bridges. I commend them for the way they have been able to reward those contract these bridges .but my issue is that it does appear that in the administration, the only measure of the development is to construct a flyover and I am really appalled.

In sagamu where I come from, they had gone to sabo area to construct a dual carriage bridge of fly over. I was there 3 days ago. I was my driver to stop and we stayed to observe traffic for 5 minutes .there was no single vehicle that went on top that bridge.

At some point in time, we saw 2 motorcycles come through the bridge that the spent billions to build, under the bridge, which is the existing road to the best for my knowledge, all they needed to have done is, to improve the road if they want. But the truth is that there is even no traffic there with Amosun, a bridge has become a piece of decoration. And the price which they do those bridge are humongeus, in billion. They have lied that the 1st flyover bridge in OGUN STATE, was constructed by the AMOSUN ,administration ,look at this book with photos of road and bridges, in color, done well before Amosun came in, I think there can be nothing worse than pulling a wool over your eyes.

I am an engineer, so I know that there are two types of bridges, the bridge over solid ground that is not a difficult thing to build that is cheaper. Then the 2nd is bridge over water, this is more difficult when you first have to go and dam the water, when you are building a bridge over water its like you are building a house in the rain and yet, you must build because the water is there permanently.
