Don't miss:

Is Lagos really WORKING?

Last year, the city of Lagos experienced one of the severest rainfalls in its history. I for one have never experienced that kind of rain since i was born!(If you like be guessing my age, O.Y.O! lol). It left a lot of sad memories including loss of property and even life. The rain last year showed a lot of people how poorly prepared and unequipped the city of Lagos and Nigeria as a whole is, as far as natural disasters are concerned. Obviously God is aware of all this, and shows us his love by not letting the tornadoes, hurricanes and even more severe natural disasters visit us in this part of the world!

This year, the rains are here again, and the continuous downpour is again starting to be a cause for concern, particularly because it is been said that the rains have only just even begun. From the rain so far, a lot of flood and serious damage to property has been recorded and people get more  worried anytime it starts to drizzle as no one can tell if it will be the beginning of the foretold seven days heavy downpour  this year.

On Thursday last week, my sisters house was flooded. The water that entered  her house reached her knees. The reason for this, is said to be blocked gutters and drainage’s as the water entering  the house was not just from the rain but overflowing gutters.  This is not a strange occurrence this rainy season. I am aware that one of the reasons for flooding are blocked drainage’s and gutters. What is the government doing this rainy season to ensure minimal flooding this year? Did it take a cue from the heavy flood caused by continuous rainfall lastyear and try to put preventive measures, to ensure minimal flooding in place?Have you seen any work been done around areas prone to flooding  by the state government? I for one know I haven’t.

Naija Hottestgist advises that Lagosians be prepared for the rains and pray that the kind of severe flooding that happened last year doesn’t repeat itself again. Also if you are not mobile, ensure to always carry an umbrella or shower cap as the case may be…The rain this year hardly gives any warning o, BE PREPARED!
