The Iyaloja general of Nigeria and President of association of commodity market women and men of Nigeria, Mrs. Folashade Tinubu-Ojo has on behalf of all market women and men across the country rejected the list of delegates as representatives of market women to the national conference.
In a press statement signed by her media consultant, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, the Iyaloja general wondered where the presidency got the names of the purported representatives of the market women from considering the fact that only one among the six delegates, Mrs. Felicia Sanni is known and recognised as market women leader.
With the exception of the earlier mentioned market leader, the under listed women according to the delegates list just released by the Presidency, none of the women is known within the market women associations across the country:
Mrs. Sheila Tamuno Abiye
Hajiya Alina Usuma
Hajiya MarvyatuIliasu
Mrs. Sarah Benjamin
Mrs. Felicia Sanni
Mrs. Ifeayinwa Ezenwa
Another poser for the presidency on the list is its geographical spread. The Iyaloja general views the composition as lope sided and as such not a true representation of the market women across Nigeria. She asks ‘’if Nigeria is operating based on the six geo-political zones across the country with the three major zones of the North, East and West being major determinants in matters of national interest, how come some major zones are excluded from the list? Which market leaders will speak for their members in those regions?
‘’We see the market women delegates list as a hand work of some impostors who paraded themselves before the presidency and went to hand pick few friends as representatives of market leaders’’, Iyaloja General said.
Mrs. Folashade Tinubu Ojo wondered why the presidency did not make consultation to ascertain who market leaders across the country are rather than bring out a list of people who are not known to market women as their representatives at the national conference.
We therefore reject the list and assert that market women are rightfully represented at the forthcoming national conference. Therefore, whatever position put forward by the so called market women delegates is not a representation of market women from across Nigeria and is rejected forthwith. It is dead on arrival! We call on the Federal government to quickly address this anomaly before the conference commences, said Mrs. Tinubu-Ojo
