Justice Adebisi Akinlade of the Lagos High Court, sitting in Igbosere on Monday, February 17, 2014 ordered Oluwaseun Ogunbambo who is standing trial in a case of forgery and obtaining N610million by false pretence to present himself for trial on April 23 and 24, 2014 or risk a bench warrant.
Ogunbambo who was not in court at the last adjourned date, was again absent on Monday on the pretext that he was medically unfit. While addressing the court, R.A Oluyede, counsel to the defendant said: “My lord, i am sorry to tell the court that my client is not in court today, he is not medically fit and he has been placed on bed rest by his doctor”.
In response, Justice Akinlade said “ your client cannot ignore the court, he has to come to the court, even if he has to be brought on a wheel chair, he appeared last on October 23, 2013. Since then, the matter has been dragging, we have not done anything due to his absence in court”.
But Oluyede promised to bring his client to court on the next adjourned date but requested for a long adjournment to, in his words, “give the EFCC ample time to conduct their investigation in respect of the order you gave at the last meeting”.
However, Rotimi Oyedepo, EFCC counsel, told the court that “ we only request for a short adjourned date. My lord, we have written a letter to the hospital as ordered and they are yet to answer us, and I would like to inform your lordship that your learned brother, Justice Adeniyi Onigbanjo has ordered for a bench warrant against the defendant, we hope the court will do same”.
Justice Akinlade adjourned the matter April 23 and 24, 2014 for continuation of trial.
