Report reaching NHS indicates that some thugs, on Thursday, invaded the Senatorial Office of Senator Akin Odunsi in Ota, Ogun State, unleashing terror on some of his members of staff and others within the vicinity.
A source, who witnessed the incident, informed this magazine that the hoodlums stormed the premises on Thursday morning, destroying properties and beating all his staff and people in the area.
Two of the five persons badly injured were said to have died before reaching the hospital for treatment. The Senatorial office Secretary, Kemi Afolabi, who was also beaten by the thugs, was rushed to the hospital after losing consciousness.
When contacted, the Ogun State Police Command spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident to Aproko247.
In a press statement sent to us, he denied any human casualty recorded in the fracas. He added that the state Commissioner of Police, Ikemefuna Okoye, has visited the scene for the on-the-spot assessment.
Adejobi further said that the CP has ordered a full scale investigation into the mayhem.
Giving an insight into what may have caused Thursday’s violence, the source divulged to Aproko247 that the attackers were led by one Asha, who is said to be a brother to a current Amoran top shot, a close associate of the immediate past local government caretaker Chairman.
On Wednesday, the group allegedly made an attempt to forcefully inaugurate a five man interim executive for the local council, as directed by the state governor, Ibikunle Amosun, but were resisted by the people.
The police account stated that at 9:15am on Thursday, “one Olayode Olusukami ‘M’ of No 87, Iganmode road, Ota reported to the police that on 23/01/2014 at about 0900Hrs, some unidentified young men came to Senetor Odunsi Akin’s administrative office at the above address and beat up his office secretary one Kemi Afolabi ‘F’ with stick.
“That the men also scatterd and damaged his office equipment. On receipt of the report, scene of crime was visited by police detectives led by the DPO, CSP Gabriel Dibie. The victim is responding to treatment at a private hospital in Ota.
“No casuality was recorded.
“Meanwhile, the CP, Ikemefuna Okoye, has visited the scene in company of the DCP Operations, Mohammed Abdulkadri, Area Command Ota; Titi Kayode, and DPO Ota, Gabreal Idibie, for on the spot assessment and has ordered a full scale investigation into the matter, that the men who perpetrated the act will be brought to book.”
There have been series of violence lately in Ogun State between factions of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state. The party has been divided between Amosun and Olusegun Osoba, a former governor of the state and the man believed to have nominated Amosun for the post.
