Two members of Ekiti Bibire Coalition, Mr Foluso Ogundare and Mrs Beatrice Ige, were yesterday shot during an attack on members of the group in Emure Ekiti by some desperate elements and political appointees of Governor Kayode Fayemi in broad day light in yet another brazen attempt to silence opposition and impose a culture of fear on Ekiti people.
Bibire Coalition is the political platform and independent campaign outfit of the House of Representatives member and Governorship hopeful, Hon Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, popularly called MOB in Ekiti State.
Bibire Coalition members were holding their meeting at Ward 03 in Emure Ekiti when gun-wielding goons, led by a Hon. Kehinde Boluwade, a current member of Ekiti State House of Assembly from Emure constituency and Hon. Muyiwa Abegunde, a former member of the State House of Assembly who also doubles as Coordinator of John Kayode Fayemi (JKF) for second term group besieged the place and started shooting sporadically.
In the process, the two members of the Group, were shot at close range and in various parts of their bodies. Specifically, Mr Ogundare was shot in the stomach and later died at about 10.25pm on Sunday night at Federal Medical Centre, Ido Ekiti while Mrs Beatrice Ige was shot in the buttock and is presently being treated at the Ekiti State Teaching Hospita,l Ado-Ekiti..
The victims had earlier been taken to a hospital in Emure community for treatment, but knowing the degrees of the gun-shot injury sustained, the medical experts suggested that they should be taken to Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) in Ado Ekiti for adequate care.
We must place on record that this is one murder too many and it is suggestive of high level of political desperation, intolerance and impunity on the side of the Governor Kayode Fayemi regime. When has it become an offence for the citizens of a country to exercise their constitutional right to associate freely?.
As stakeholders, we recall that during the struggle for the actualisation of his mandate, Governor Fayemi said “no blood of an Ekiti man is worth shedding” because of his political aspiration. He equally emphasized that he was not desperate to rule Ekiti. But with the current sordid scenario characterizing the politics of the State, one is constrained to believe the assertion in many quarters that all these were mere rhetorics and sheer smokescreen to delude the people.
Governor Fayemi and his cronies are becoming more daring and hardened by the day to have a second term on a platter of intimidation and flagrant abuses of human rights.
Ekiti people must rise against this tyranny and vampirism that are rearing their ugly heads just because one man is desperate to win reelection by all means in 2014.
Enough of this gangsterism. Enough of this bloodshed and jackboot politics. Ekiti say no to it and no amount of threats, maiming and killings, would make these blood suckers return to the Government House in 2014.
What theory or derisive defence would the police put up this time around? Because these people were not doing any street procession that could warrant any disruption. No doubt, this is a battle Ekiti people must win.
We called on Inspector General of Police, Director General of State Security Service (SSS) and other law enforcement agencies to fully investigate this dastardly art with a view to bringing the culprits to book and sending a clear signal to the perpetrator of evil in Ekiti land that no one, regardless of how highly placed, is above the law. A stitch in time saves nime.
1. APC wants all poor widows trying to make out a legitimate living “to go and commit suicide!”
2. APC wants us to be soaked in the “blood of the dogs and the baboon”
3. APC wants State of Emergency removed and a free reign for terrorists in Nigeria.
4. APC wants to make Nigeria ungovernable if and when they do not win elections.
5. APC detests, even hates the thought of having a National Conference.
6. APC says the PDP are evil, thieves, looters then turns round and shamefully but gleefully woos and receives 5 of their Governors into
their fold.
7. APC’s south west governors construct roads at N1B per kilometer, the most expensive anywhere in the world.
8. APC’s believes in erecting toll gates on roads built with tax payers monies, whilst turning round to “buy-back” contracts for those roads from contractors who have neither completed said contracts and who have serially breached
agreements for same.
9. APC prefers to re-classify schools in order Aregbesola is about to systematically islamize them and where Principals of such schools complain, they are dealt with by “unknown” islamists.
10. APC prefers to have children receive lectures whilst sitting on window panes, whilst shouting the mantra “eko oni baje”.
11. APC believes a citizen can and should be deported in his country to a bridge head at 2a.m in the morning.
PDP is no better but they are a lesser evil to APC. Please we the true sons of Anambra not ‘umu osu’ (outcasts) have made our choice. Alhaji Ahmed Wale Ngige was rejected and yes APC is a sacrilegious party in Igboland. The wazos should stop interfering in Anambra affairs. APC will lose a hundred times in any state in southeast. I pity Alhaji Mohammad Babalakin Rochas Okorocha if he doesn’t reject his unholy alliance with the islamic zealots then Ngige treatment awaits him come 2015.
