Pelumi Olajengbesi to Wole Oke: Stop Attacking Adeleke’s Government, Face Your Ambitions with Integrity

Yesterday, Wole Oke boldly sponsored reports in various media outlets against the government of Governor Ademola Adeleke, and in the process made defamatory statements about me, though the details of that defamation need not be repeated here.

It is evident that Wole Oke was merely testing the waters of his growing alignment with the APC government, subtly promoting former Governor Gboyega Oyetola to gauge the people’s reaction. I must admit, it is somewhat amusing that his attempt has met strong resistance from the good people of Osun, who remain steadfast in their support for Governor Adeleke. His efforts to undermine the Governor fell flat, as the Governor’s overwhelming popularity and divine favor leave little room for such antics.

After the backlash on Facebook, Wole Oke retreated in a rather desperate manner, claiming his battle was not with the Governor but with me as he begged privately. He insists that he is not leaving the PDP and that I, Pelumi Olajengbesi, am his supposed problem. How? Was I ever the issue when rumors swirled that he failed to support the Governor wholeheartedly during the last election? I defended him then. Was I ever his problem when he repeatedly posted negative comments about the state government instead of using the direct channels available to him? Certainly not.

Even if I were his problem, owing, perhaps, to my expressed interest in contesting the election in ORIADE/OBOKUN, Wole Oke should remember that he was the one who called me to run for the House of Representatives. He called me and said he had done enough, reminding me that some of his mates in the National Assembly are now senators or governors, and that he was tired of seeing young people in the house. I believed him then; he even assembled a team for me with his best men. Now, to turn around and blame me when he has a change of heart is both puzzling and, dare I say, a bit comical. An honorable man would have simply called to explain his new predicament of contesting for House of Representatives again rather than resort to such theatrics.

I first knew of Wole Oke as my House of Representatives member even before I got admission to study Law at the most prestigious University of Abuja and I thought I admired his leadership a lot. I graduated, went to the Nigerian Law School and started Law Practice. While I developed interest in politics I still met him on the same spot. I cannot because of that refuse to move ahead if he was not going to move. We move him for progress. I contested against him in 2019, the party intervened and I stepped down for him. I indicated interest 2023, the party leaders said he is the next Speaker of House of Representatives, we must not kill that dream, when I am not a native doctor, I stepped down.

When the party leaders asked me before the last election to allow Wole Oke to run and he promised it was his last time, I respectfully conceded. After all, if our true intent is service, it should never be a do-or-die matter. I supported him in the last elections and significantly depleted my hard earned personal funds for the cause without ever asking for anything in return. Now he is interested in returning to the same House of Representatives, he is now attacking the Government believing that the Governor will invite him and beg him to take the ticket for House of Representatives again, it will be a nice movie to watch. Therefore I cannot be Wole Oke’s problem rather his character.

My advice to Wole Oke is simple: cease posting derogatory statements against the government. Stop making posts that leave you looking rather confused, and refrain from fighting anyone who does not agree with you. It is not too late to change course.
