Ondo AG, Dr. Olukayode Ajulo, Hails Inauguration of Local Government Council Members, Applauds Governor Aiyedatiwa’s Commitment to Constitutional Principles
The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ondo State, Dr. Olukayode Ajulo, SAN, OON, has lauded the swearing-in of the newly elected Local Government Chairmen and Vice Chairmen across the 18 Local Government Areas of the State, describing it as a historic step in upholding democratic principles and constitutional governance.
The inauguration, conducted by Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, and the oath administered by the Chief Judge of Ondo State, Hon. Justice Segun Aiyedun Odusola, marks a significant milestone in Ondo State’s commitment to local government autonomy, as recently affirmed by the Supreme Court.
Dr. Ajulo stated that the Supreme Court’s judgment on local government autonomy reaffirmed the constitutional mandate for democratically elected councils, ensuring that grassroots governance remains functional and independent.
He emphasised that “from the outset, the Ondo State Government, under the leadership of Governor Aiyedatiwa, made a firm commitment to abide by this judgment, recognizing its pivotal role in strengthening democratic institutions and promoting effective governance at the local level.”
“Today, that commitment has been fulfilled with resounding success. The local government system in Ondo State is now led by democratically elected men and women who emerged through a credible and transparent electoral process. This achievement reflects Governor Aiyedatiwa’s unwavering dedication to upholding the rule of law and fostering a system where governance is truly for and by the people.”
Dr. Ajulo extended his deep appreciation to the people of Ondo State for their patience, trust, and active participation in the electoral process, which has led to this significant achievement. He also acknowledged the contributions of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, for his dedication to legal reforms that have empowered states to uphold democratic structures at the local government level.
The Attorney General further commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support of Nigeria’s democratic institutions, stating that “the renewed commitment of Mr. President and the judiciary to strengthening constitutional governance has created an enabling environment for States to uphold the sanctity of elected local government administrations.”
Dr. Ajulo described the massive turnout during the local government election as a clear testament to the popularity and acceptance of Governor Aiyedatiwa’s administration and the electoral process by the people of Ondo State. He reiterated that the oath of office, duly administered by the Chief Judge, further reinforces the legitimacy of the process and the government’s commitment to upholding democratic principles.”
