As we stand on the cusp of a new year, it is fitting to pause and reflect on our remarkable journey together while embracing the vast opportunities that lie ahead.
In 2024, we encountered a challenging beginning, yet we transformed these obstacles into significant strides forward. As it is written, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord (Jeremiah 29:11), and we have indeed felt His guiding hand and with the unwavering support of His Excellency, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, we have achieved milestones, introduced innovative concepts, revitalized leadership within key departments, and issued directives that have redefined our governance approach which serve as a model for other counteract States. I am thrilled to take continuous pride in the appointment of six new judges, a milestone achievement, for the first time since 1976. We were able to amend our High Court Statute to allow us to welcome an additional eleven judges, thereby significantly bolstering our judicial capacity.
This year, we placed a strong emphasis on our court representations, ensuring that the Director of Public Prosecutions’ advice is delivered promptly- within a week- demonstrating our unwavering commitment to efficiency and justice. We have dedicated ourselves to fostering a conducive workplace for all, creating an environment where our legal professionals can truly thrive. Our leadership is resolute in setting the standard for excellence and accountability.
We have successfully engaged the Office of the Attorney General and the Ministry of Justice, reaffirming its vital role as the premier service provider ministry dedicated to the greater good of the people of Ondo State. Our renewed advocacy for increased budgetary allocations has yielded promising results, enabling us to direct more resources into enhancing justice and legal services. As a result, our colleagues now receive the respect and recognition they rightfully deserve, particularly with the recent enactment of legislation against land-grabbing. We have also prioritized the welfare of our entire staff, leveraging both public allocated funds and our private resources to ensure their well-being, understanding that their success is the foundation of our collective achievements.
Our commitment to justice has resonated far beyond our State, earning us recognition across the nation. Individuals have been granted freedom through the prerogative of mercy, executed with the utmost integrity. We have cultivated an environment free from crises and discord, leveraging our Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) department to amicably resolve conflicts. Our professional relationships with other MDAs have flourished, reflecting our dedication to collaboration and mutual respect.
We are currently working on developing a more effective approach to drafting contracts in Ondo State. Additionally, we have engaged in substantial dialogue with the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation, resulting in exceptional cooperation and focused attention. This partnership has and further poised to bring considerable benefits to Ondo State, strengthening our legal framework and ensuring that our justice system are both efficient and sound.
As we gaze into the future, we have ambitious plans. We look forward to the NEC meeting of the Nigerian Bar Association that will take place in our State at the first quarter of the new year. We aim to build and own two Offices of the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice in the northern and southern regions of our state, which will also house other agencies of the Ministry, ensuring justice is accessible to all citizens. Additionally, we will enhance our mobility and logistics to better serve our communities. We are committed to diligently reviewing and amending several obsolete laws, rigorously pursuing our projects and ideas with renewed vigour. We shall also break boundaries and shatter ceilings with our expertise. Furthermore, we will intensify our collaboration with other government ministries to ensure the seamless delivery of comprehensive justice across Ondo State.
In the spirit of unity and shared purpose, let us recall the profound words of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), who said, “The best of people are those who are most beneficial to others.” I urge you to continue supporting our esteemed Governor, His Excellency, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, as we collectively strive for a flourishing Ondo State. Your involvement is crucial as we unite in our aspirations for a brighter future, where every citizen can thrive.
