Wale Olomu Memorial Awards: Roundtable Discussion Kicks Off 2024 Edition

Lagos, Nigeria – As part of the 2nd Wale Olomu Memorial Awards (WOMA), a pivotal Roundtable Discussion is scheduled to take place on Saturday, 14 December 2024, at 7:30 a.m. (Nigerian Time). Themed “Building a Broad-Based Safety Nets for Veteran & Indigent Practitioners,” the event will air live on The Vintage Talkshow on TopRadio 90.9 FM and feature some of Nigeria’s brightest minds in entertainment, law, and advocacy.

The Roundtable will address the challenges faced by veteran and struggling entertainment practitioners, with a focus on sustainability, welfare, and creating robust support systems for those in need.

Panelists include:
1. Foluke Daramola-Salako – A notable actress and activist with a deep commitment to humanitarian causes in Nollywood. She is the founder of Action Against Rape in Africa (AARA), an initiative aimed at combating sexual violence and advocating for victims’ rights. Her critically acclaimed works, including the award-nominated film Cobweb, highlighting her dedication to telling meaningful stories and driving societal change.

2. Oluwaseun Ajasa – A forward-thinking legal expert and Managing Partner at the law firm of Abraham, Thompsons & Co. As a trained arbitrator and mediator, Ajasa routinely advises clients in FMCG, Aviation, Real Estate, Technology, Media & Entertainment, Maritime and Creative sectors of the Economy. With years of experience supporting businesses and creatives, he is also the host of The Law & You on Lagos Talks FM, where he offers pro-bono legal advice to the public.

3. Mike Okri – A legendary musician whose hits like Time Na Money, Okpeke and Rhumba Dance redefined Nigerian music in the 1980s and 1990s. With multiple awards from the Nigerian Music Awards, Fame Music Awards and Pan-African Music Awards, Okri is a symbol of excellence and resilience in the entertainment industry. Now based in California, he remains a passionate advocate for Nigerian arts and culture.

Anchored by veteran journalist Femi Akintunde-Johnson, the WOMA Roundtable promises to deliver insightful conversations aimed at shaping a more inclusive and equitable future for the Nigerian entertainment sector.
