The Nigeria Police Force has issued a fresh summons to the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, and the union’s Secretary General, Emmanuel Ugboaja.
The summons, dated August 28, 2024, alleges “criminal intimidation, malicious property damage, and actions likely to disrupt public peace.”
The letter states that Ajaero’s name emerged during investigations into these alleged offenses.
The police requested that Ajaero and Ugboaja appear for an interview with the Deputy Inspector General of Police at the Force Intelligence Department’s headquarters in Abuja on September 5, 2024, at 11 a.m.
This latest invitation follows an earlier one from the Office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Intelligence Response Team (IRT), where Ajaero was summoned on charges including “criminal conspiracy, terrorism financing, treasonable felony, subversion, and cybercrime.”
No further comments were made by the Nigeria police or the NLC leaders regarding the summons as of the time this report was filed.
