The lawmaker representing Ibadan North East/South East Federal Constituency, Hon. Abass Adigun Agboworin, has commended the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) over the raid of factory producing ‘Skuchies’ and arrest of the operator.
The operatives of the Agency had, last Thursday, raided a secret skuchies factory being operated by one 28-year-old Oyadeji Dimeji in the Moniya area of Ibadan in Akinyele LGA of Oyo State, and 76.6kg of cannabis sativa; 134 grams of tramadol; 93 grams of rophynol and 50 litres of skuchies – a liquid mixture containing various types of psychoactive substances were recovered.
Giving the commendation through a press statement personally signed on Monday and made available to journalists in Ibadan, Agboworin, who is the Chairman of House of Representatives Committee On Drugs and Narcotics, noted that efforts of the Agency at cutting off supplies and taking illicit drugs away from the streets are a welcome development.
He encouraged the Agency not to relent in its war against substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking, assuring his committee would continue to partner with and support the agency to succeed in its onerous task of ridding Nigeria of the drug menace.
While lamenting the rate at which the menace is destroying the young generation daily, the lawmaker emphasized that no effort must be spared in addressing the problem headlong.
The statement read, “I want to really commend the efforts of the operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) over the raid of a factory producing ‘Skuchies’ and, particularly the arrest of the operator of the factory. I hope that many more arrests will be made.
“This is a welcome development and I believe, if sustained, will gradually cut off the supplies and take the illicit drugs away from our streets. Obviously, the menace is fast destroying the youth generation, who are supposed to be future leaders of the country and this is a serious challenge we must tackle headlong.
“I want to assure that our committee would continue to partner and support the agency to succeed in its onerous task of ridding our society of the drug menace.”
