PDP’s ADVERTISED IGNORANCE ON OGUN CONSTITUENCY PROJECTS

The attention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun state has been drawn to a half-thought-out press statement issued today by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Ogun State chapter, criticizing Governor Dapo Abiodun for approving constituency projects for the 236 Councillors in the state.

The statement, in which the PDP posited that the Governor has no power to approve the projects for councillors, was definitely issued out of ignorance. Perhaps, the Ogun State PDP is still smarting from its deserved loss at the Court of Appeal, Lagos, last week, where its appeal was dismissed by the court.

There is absolutely nothing stoping the Governor from assisting or supporting the Councillors in delivering the dividends of democracy to the grassroots This does not in any way prevent or stop the constituency projects of the councillors in their respective local governments areas. It is only complementary.

For example, Ijebu East Local Government, already approved constituency projects for its councillors and has commenced execution long before the additional intervention by the Governor. Actually, it was the former Chairman of Ijebu East LG, Hon. Wale Adedayo, that approved the constituency projects in form of one borehole for each of the 11 councillors in the local government. He made payments for two of the boreholes in Ijebu Ife Ward Two and Imushin Ward One before his impeachment. The new Chairman, Hon. Oyesanya Adetutu Elizabeth has reviewed the contract sum downward and approved nine boreholes for the remaining nine councillors. However, the people of Ijebu East Local Government will still benefit from the recent gesture of the Governor through their councillors. As a development-focused Administration, the dividends of democracy can never be too much for our people.

Furthermore, just as the local government chairmen are carrying out projects in their respective local government areas, the state government is still embarking on projects across the 20 local government areas. That is development in action as being demonstrated by the government that we are very proud of.

May we advise the PDP and its hack writers to: “Seek ye first understanding, ask where you are not clear, before jumping to sign a press statement that ends up exposing the ignorance of your unprofessional media handlers.”
