The proposed workers’ strike scheduled to commence on Tuesday, 3rd October, 2023, has been called off after the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), met with the federal government to allow the federal government implement the labour unions demands.
The meeting which started on Sunday, was concluded on Tuesday and the two labour unions agreed to shelved the indefinite strike.
Confirming the development, the deputy president, NLC, Adewale Adeyanju, directed all members of the Maritime sector to resume work on Tuesday, 3rd September, 2023.
Adeyanju, who so also the deputy president general of the Marítime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), in a statement by the head of Media, MWUN, John Ikemefuna, said the National Executive Council (NEC) of the NLC directed that all its affiliate members should direct their members to return to work on October 3, 2023 as the planned indefinite strike has been suspended.
