I’ve read so many reactions, mostly condemnations, of the Lagos State Government, over yesterday’s Public Auctioning of Vehicles confiscated from Traffic Offenders, particularly those who drove against Traffic popularly known as One way Drivers in Lagos.

As inhumane, as the Action of the government, may look to many, it must be said that the Lagos government decision is backed by law, and as often said, ignorance of the law, is not an excuse.

Meanwhile, my endorsement of the Government’s action, is not just in the legitimacy of the auctioning of vehicles belonging to ‘One Way’ drivers only, but based on my nearly daily experience with these reckless individuals, not limited to the bunch of maniacal Commercial Bus drivers, but also some supposedly educated Lagosians.

It should be known, that every ‘One Way’ driver, is a Potential Murderer and deserves no sympathy. I totally lost whatever sympathy for these people driving ‘one way’ in Lagos, the very day, an innocent man, who was dressed in same attire and was returning from an occasion with his wife, was knocked down, ran over and killed on the spot in my presence, by a one way driver under Dopemu flyover, along Ikeja road in Lagos.

It’s been over Five years now, and I’m yet to overcome the trauma of that incident, which happened right in my presence, till date. This manner of killing, have also been reported in several parts of Lagos, many times.

We all have tendency to commit, one traffic offense or the other, even though I’ve never been penalized for one before, but it is inexcusable, to cross to another traffic lane and still be racing on same, like we witness everyday in Lagos.

The Lagos Government must go further in dealing with this menace, by increasing its enforcement against one way driving, particularly those committed by members of the “Lagos 4th arm of government” the NURTW Yellow Buses.

We have a society to build and people should sometimes be ready, to pay for the consequences of their bad behaviors.
