IN MEMORY OF HON TAOFEEK OLATUNDE BRAIMOH (1960-2020): THE UNFORGETTABLE.
The Late Hon Taofeek Olatunde Braimoh was a two-term member of the Lagos State House of Assembly. The very brilliant and colorful lawyer and politician was a member of 8th and 9th Legislative Assemblies ( 2015- 2020 when he died).
He was also the Chairman of Kosofe Local Government Council from 1998-2002.
Hon Braimoh was a journalist delight. Call him any time of the day on any issue of state and national interest, he was more than willing to respond to your questions.
He was also a grassroots politician who was always at home to all manners of people from his constituency.
He was a delight to watch on the floor of the chambers of the Lagos State House of Assembly whenever he stands up to speak on any issue.
He was an orator par excellence and very eloquent. When he stands up to speak on the floor of the assembly virtually everybody within the chambers listens with rapt attention.
A family man who loves his wife and four children affectionately and never tires of talking about them at every given opportunity.
This is what he said about his wife in an interview he granted Encomium Magazine during his 57th birthday celebration on September 30, 2017.
“I love my wife. The love was so much. Though I had my share of philandering as a young man she was on a pedestal of her own. She is an honest and reliable woman. She was not materialistic. If she was materialistic, she won’t marry me. I didn’t have money when we met. I had a Passat car, fourth hand. I was the fourth registered owner of that car at Somolu.
“Many times she had to lend me money to buy tyres for that car. And she was very beautiful when she was younger and still beautiful now. She knew what she was doing. She knew where she was going then. It is now that God has blessed us that she is trying to flex like a big man’s wife.
” Then she would do anything for me. She was the secretary in my chambers. After closing from work from her own office she would come to type for me in my office because I couldn’t afford to employ a secretary then in 1992. She suffered for me. She worked for me. She weathered the storm with me.
“Let me be honest with you, what attracted me to her then was her beauty, just the way I want my woman to be. So, I was in love with her. We didn’t court for a long time. We courted for about six months. She contributed to my growth and development”.
Hon Braimoh has this to say about me in my book, Two Decades of Lagos House of Assembly: Face to Face With Movers and Shakers’. Tolani Abatti is a household name in soft-sell journalism. I came across that name in the early millennial years, 2000-2001 or there about. It is a name that is a recurring decimal as far as celebrity journalism is concerned.
Tolani Abatti has shown he is a credible and noble person. He has been a reliable, dependable source of information.
” Tolani Abatti has a knack for setting the agenda. For some issues that are ripe and that are not yet open, Tolani has a kind of capacity to break it open even before those who are holding it intend to release it. At times, I will look and say: why wouldn’t Tolani hold on, to this? Why is he breaking it open? Well, he is a journalist and it is part of his job”.
