– Celebrates Baba Kekere at 91
Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande, the first Executive Governor of Lagos State from 1979 to 1983, who clocks 91 today, has continuously enjoyed a lot of accolades from well-meaning Lagosians, both at home and in the Diaspora.
Christened as the best performing Governor during his time,Jakande introduced the housing and educational programmes, targeting the poor, by building new neighbourhood primary and secondary schools with provision of free and qualitative primary and secondary education. He established the Lagos State University and also constructed over 30,000 housing units. The schools and housing units were built cheaply and of great value.
He also started a metroline project to facilitate mass transit. The project was halted and his tenure as Governor ended when the military seized power on 31 December 1983, among many accomplishments.
Celebrating his great achievements, the Lead Visioner of TEAM jandor, Mr. Abdul – Azeez Olajide Adediran, saluted the nonagenarian for making Lagosians proud and proving that the Lagos for Lagos project of team Jandor is the best deal for Lagosians.
Jandor said “Baba is like a book which we read while growing up.I have learnt so much from him, but most important of it,is that Lagos worked for all during his time as Governor.
He opined that “the best way to preserve Jakande’s legacy is to see Team Jandor ‘Lagos for Lagos’ project to fruition, where all Residents of Lagos would be proud to have a state that work for them all, irrespective of their Origins, and also a Lagos, where the Sons and Daughters of the soil take their deserved places.”
“We celebrate Baba Kekere and salute his legacies.”
“Happy Birthday Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande”, Jandor added.
