Don't miss:

Coronavirus , The journey so far in ogun state – Gov Abiodun

Our attention has been needlessly drawn to a Facebook publication which was targeted at crediting the Governor Dapo Abiodun’s government with undeserved project that was not facilitated, powered or implemented by it.

The intent and purpose of this Press Release is to set the records straight as we are not interested in joining issues with anyone or group of people whose aim is to score cheap, unwholesome and baseless political credit.

It might interest the general public to know that in 2018 which was the penultimate year of the first term of the Rt. Hon. Adekoya Adesegun Abdel-Majid’s (ATTACKER) membership of the House of Representatives, he ensured that the construction of Jetties and Abatements of Water Hyacinths in ONI, IWOPIN, ODE-OMI, MAKUN-OMI, IROKUN, IGBO-EDUN, AWODIKORA, IGELE, Communities in Ogun Waterside of Ijebu North /Ijebu East /Ogun Waterside Federal Constituency find its way into that year’s federal budget.

Unfortunately, the said project could not be provided for in the 2018 budget. It may suffice to say that this project was one of the many projects he had promised our people of Ogun Waterside during his electioneering days in 2014/2015.

By 2019, to the glory of God, with the help of the right people in government and the unrelenting efforts of Rt. Hon. Adekoya Adesegun Abdel-Majid, who now enjoys unprecedented grace of almighty Allah as he won another mandate of his people for a second term in the National Assembly but now as its Deputy Minority Whip, the said project was in part budgeted for in the 2019 appropriation acts.

In view of our dwindling national economic fortunes, the project was approved in phases. So, the construction of ILAMA-IWOPIN JETTY is what was contained in the 2019 federal budget.

It is customary and only decent in practice for authorities and contractors in charge of project execution to pay courtesy calls on the state Government, its concerned agencies, traditional leadership in the concerned communities, so NIWA visited the Governor of Ogun state, exchanged warm pleasantries and took photos.

Shockingly, the gestures by NIWA were twisted by a highly respected member of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration when he jumped on his Facebook page to write thus:

“NIWA IN IWOPIN
Step by step
We shall get there
PDA APC ACTION”

This action and the attendant furore it generated since June 15 when it was posted have given the Deputy Minority Whip some concerns as he considered it unconscionable, unfair, and cheap especially on the part of those individuals whose comments on the post twisted the facts in the favour of the current state government.

For the avoidance of doubt, this project as it is today is older than the present Ogun state government as it was birthed in 2018. We have documents and facts to support our claims.

While it is not the interest of the Rt. Hon. Adekoya Adesegun Abdel-Majid to deride the level-headed, performing and resourceful Governor of Ogun state, neither is it his intention to engage anyone in unproductive political “roforofo” fight, which is not his style, it is only his wish to put the records straight. It is the joy and interest of all National Assembly members representing Ogun state to facilitate projects for the good people of the state regardless of political party platforms. Ogun state is our collective Constituency and Project, so her greatness, growth and development should take centre stage.

However, it will only be decent, proper and conscionable for the state Government, its agencies and the various communities to ascribe credits to whom they are due whenever projects facilitated by any of our hardworking, unrelenting and resourceful representatives get to the implementation stages.

The glory of our dear State, Ogun, the edification of Ijebu North/Ijebu East/Ogun Waterside Federal Constituency and the interests of his Constituents are the core values which Rt. Hon. Adekoya Adesegun Abdel-Majid stands for.
