It gives me great pleasure to pay a special birthday tribute and toast to, a pacesetter, a possibilitarian and a good man, Bashorun Dele Momodu at 60.
I was privileged to be one of the guests at his wedding in 1992, at Ijebu Igbo and at his 35th birthday in 1995.
There are three things that I admire greatly about Bashorun Dele Momodu.
The first one is, his courage in the face of adversity. He shared the belief of the late sage, Chief Obefemi Awolowo that, “it is not the life that matters but the courage you bring to it”. He also shares the view of Winston Churchill who once said, “Courage is rightly considered the foremost of the virtues, for upon it all others depend.”
As you will all agree with me, the systematic development of the profound quality of unflinching courage is one of the fundamental requirements for leadership in any field.
Bashorun demonstrated courage with Ovation. I was not only a founding member of staff of Ovation magazine; I was also one of the people who sold the first edition of the magazine on the streets of London in 1996 to support the dream of my big brother and many people rudiculed us then.
From a humble beginning Bashorun Dele Momodu is now a super global brand. The stone that the builders rejected has now become the corner stone of the house. It is the Lord’s doing and it is marvellous in our eyes.
The second thing I admire about him is his love for his family. He believes that private victory precedes public victory, that if you are not successful at home as a husband and father, your success amounts to nothing. Hence he invested in his family, showed affection to his wife, Chief (Mrs) Mobolaji Momodu and demonstrated positive role model to his lovely children, Pekan, Yole, Eniafe and Korewa.
According to Steven R. Covey in his book: ‘The 8th Habit: From Effectives to Greatness’, he stated clearly that: “Parenthood is the most important leadership responsibility in life and will provide the greatest level of happiness and joy.”
The third is his sense of humility. He is a humble man who treats everybody with respect and courtesy. Zig Ziglar, one of my speaking mentors, once said, “Humility has opened many doors for Bashorun. Humility will open more doors than arrogance ever will”.
Bashorun, may the LORD make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; may the LORD lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.
The Lord God will be with you and will protect you. You will see your children grow and also see your children’s children.
Your life and business will blossom like a well-tendered flower by the side of the river. And mercy and goodness shall follow you all the days of your life.
Goddess and I wish you a happy 60th birthday, long live and prosperity. May everything in your life and business be like the capital of Ireland– Always Dublin!
Cheers to one of the greatest achievers I’ve ever met. A man who is full of life, humble, loyal, generous, who works hard and likes to live good – To Bashorun Dr Ayobamidele Abayomi Ojutelegan Ajani Momodu, our own dear Bob Dee.
