Oyo Police Nab 11 Northerners Trying To Secure Entrance Into Ibadan

Operatives of the Nigerian Police of Oyo State Command have, today, apprehended eleven travellers who claimed to be travelling to Akure, Ondo State, to Ibadan at Asejire after defying the COVID-19 interstate border lockdown

While speaking during the interogation, the driver of the bus, Muhammad Idris, said they passed through old roads and bushes from Sokoto to Niger, Kwara into Ogbomoso, then Ibadan to reconcile with their family members in Akure.

However, Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, who also spoke on the developmen at the Gbagi Divisional Police Station, Oyo state Governor, stated that the government has commenced immediate COVID-19 test to the travellers and will ensure they are sent back to Sokoto.

“We are not able to explain how they got in here in the first place because all the states throughout the country are locked down. They claimed they came from Sokoto and they must have passed through so many states.”

“We are taking their samples now. They cannot go anywhere now until we get results. So, I have asked my Special Assistant on Arewa to talk to Seriki Sasha to see if we can keep them within that community isolated until we have their results.”

Governor Makinde also explained that he was in touch with the Sokoto State Governor, Hon.Aminu Tambuwaal and it is likely to return them to the Sokoto State, noting that efforts are ongoing to intensify strategies for interstate lock down.

“I am also in discussion with the Governor of Sokoto. We are more than likely going to return them to Sokoto.”

The Governor reinstated that all Governors in the country are still discussing on how to enforce the inter state lockdown throughout the State so as to drastically curtail further spread of the deadly virus.

He said: “It is a discussion going on with the rest governors in Nigeria because inter State lockdown was put in place for a particular reason and what we have agreed to do is, in each individual state where you have inter state garages, those garages must be on lockdown. If they are locked down, at least 80 to 85 per cent of our problems would have been solved.”

The Officials of the Oyo state COVID-19
task force were already on ground to administer necessary test and safety measures to forestall possible escalation
