Covid-19: C’River Lawmakers Donate Safety Materials

Members of the Cross River State House of Assembly, yesterday, donated assorted safety medical materials to the Cross River State Covid-19 Taskforce as part of their contribution to the fight against the spread of the virus in the state.

Presenting the items to the State Commissioner for Health, The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Eteng Williams accompanied by the Leader of the House, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey and House Committee Chairman on Health, Dr. Ekpo Ekpo said the gesture will go a long way in assisting the state government to consolidate on its fight against the virus.

“In solidarity, we are giving this items as our support. We appreciate how the Governor has taken the enforcement of preventive measures in the state very seriously with the No Mask No Movement campaign.

We will be standing with him every step of the way to ensure we give a legislative backing to activities of the Covid-19 Taskforce. We urge you not to relent as you fight to keep our state free from Corona virus,” the Speaker said.

While receiving the safety kits, on behalf of the state government, the Commisoner for Health and Chairman Covid-19 Taskforce, Dr. Betta Edu, expressed gratitude for the items to assist in the fight against Coronavirus in the state.

Edu used the occasion to commend the lawmakers for showing leadership by example, adding that their gesture will have their names written in the Corona virus hall of fame.

She further appealed to the public to maintain personal hygiene by washing their hands with soap and running water regularly, maintain social distance, avoid social gatherings, handshakes, hugging, apply hand sanitizers, among others to avoid the pandemic.

Items donated by the lawmakers included, cartons of hand sanitizers, face masks, and medicated soaps.
