I sincerely sympathize with the Governor, the Government and good people of my State, Ondo on the shocking Akure-Owo road blast which occured in the early hours of Saturday, 28th March, 2020. I wish to specifically commiserate with the victims of the blast. While we are sober, we must also point it out that it is a thing of joy that no life has been reported lost in the dastardly occurence. It is my fervent supplication that the Good Lord will grant all those who are on admission in the various hospitals speedy and wholesome recovery. We cannot but acknowledge the fact that but for the Coronavirus pandemic which made Government order the closure of all schools, more casualties could have been recorded in that same vicinity which has two big schools close by. For this eternal gratitude must go to the Almighty God and commendation must be given to the Govt of Ondo State.
While we call on government to institute thorough and unbiased investigations into the calamitous incident, we would want to hope, nay, believe that it was indeed the movement of ordinance that had gone wrong and not that our dear State is another victim of the nefarious activities of the boko haram insurgents whose activities have given the whole world serious concern all through the years.
Meanwhile, one must request that the State Government as a matter of urgency cordones off the areas affected by the blast as well as ensure the evacuation of the neighbourhood to forestall another blast which is feared as a possiblity. Furthermore, Government must ensure that urgent steps are also taken to provide palliatives to cushion the immediate effect of the blast on affected families while steps are taken to ensure that there are appropriate reparations from all the appropriate authorities concerned or involved in that unfortunate shipment.
