The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Malam Muhammad Musa
Bello has given assurance that before the end of the present
administration, the sizeable land earmarked for Diaspora Medical City
will be developed.
The Minister stated this when he received the Management of Nigerians in
Diaspora Commission NIDCOM, led by the Chairman/CEO, Hon Abike
Dabiri-Erewa.
The Minister believes that to curb medical tourism such infrastructure
seen in developed climes should be replicated in Nigeria hence his
commitment to ensuring that Diaspora Medical City is achieved in
earnest.
The Minister also promised to create a conducive environment for
massive Diaspora Investment in the Federal Capital Territory in sectors
such as real estate, transportation, tourism and allied services, among
others.
The Minister said a Diaspora Focal Point Officer has been appointed to
interface with the commission from FCT.
Meanwhile the Chairman/CEO, NIDCOM, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa had earlier
requested the Minister’s intervention in the appointment of a Diaspora
Focal Point Officer and the creation of Diaspora Desk Office in the FCT.
She also requested that the Minister attends and host 2020 National
Diaspora Day which coincides with Nigeria’s 60th Independence
Anniversary and other Diaspora events in the year.
The Minister readily accepted and promised to participate in all events
organised by Nigerians in Diaspora Commission holding in the FCT.
The discussion further dovetailed into various activities of the
commission which include the National Diaspora Investment Summit, Plans
for a Diaspora investment fund, the successful Nigeria-Saudi Investment
Forum, Data Mapping of Nigerians in Diaspora and the Maiden National
Diaspora Merit Award 2020, among others.
