Advised contractors association to set up monitoring task force
A leading pro democracy group in Kwara State, Kwara Must Change has called on local contractors handling road projects across the state to live up to public expectations.
The group also said that, the local contractors association should pay close attention to jobs being done by their members to ensure that they give good account of themselves.
In a statement issued by Kwara Must Change state coordinator, Comrade Yusuf Olatunji, the group explained that, local contractors have been patronized by government in the ongoing road projects across the state, and urged them not to disappoint people who made a good case for them with the government.
According to Yusuf, patronizing local contractors is reasonable and proper, as it would not only get the job done as required, it would also help create jobs and stimulate the economy.
However, Yusuf noted that, should local contractors not perform to expectations, it would not only cast aspersion on the contractors’ integrity, it would also put a question mark on the general capacity of local contractors.
“If the jobs done by local contractors are substandard, it would be difficult to continue to patronize them”
Kwara Must Change therefore maintained that, the association of local contractors should take a proactive step by setting up a monitoring task force to ensure jobs being done by their members conform with standards and specifications.
