The LEAH Foundation a foremost cancer control NGO in conjunction with Giving.Ng a crowdfunding platform dedicated to building local and international partnerships to create lasting social impact, reduce poverty and create a better world has called for concerted effort in the fight against Cancer.
Peju Ibekwe and Lanre Bello who spoke on behalf of Giving.Ng and Leah Foundation noted that the two organizations are partnering with a view to supporting the effort of government and prevent loss of lives.
Lending her voice also, at the Press conference jointly organized by the two NGOs on Thursday, February 6, 2020 to commemorate the World Cancer Day in Lagos was a veteran Nollywood actress, Joke Silva. She said the country does not have the capacity to effectively deal with the challenges cancer poses. Therefore, there is need for all persons of goodwill to join resources together to fight the ravaging disease.
Breast cancer is a major global public health problem accounting for massive morbidity and significant mortality nationwide among women of child bearing age.
With the increase in death rate due to late discovery of the ailment and lack of funds for screenings for women, the organizations have come together to raise funds for preventive breast cancer screenings and are looking to raise funds for 5,000 women at N15,000 per woman by December 2020.
