I’m not into the whole Marlian “fanatism”, but really this young man is one of the most Intentional artiste in Nigeria.
First, He coined a name for himself that depicts two powerful and significant meanings;
“Naira” – Nigeria’s currency, everytime there is a search for “Naira”, his name is likely to pop up on the first thread, considering he is one of the most googled person in Nigeria this year.
Plus adding “Marley” – the last name of the most popular “late” reggae artiste in the world to his name, everytime you google “Bob Marley”, “Naira Marley is likely to pop up as a “People also searched for option”.
Secondly, he became one of the most mentioned and sought after artiste in Nigeria.
Corporate organizations are rushing him to perform at their end of year shows and paying heavily, a bank paid N60M “Allegedly” for him to perform at 3 shows, and he is cashing in from other major shows too, opening for big acts and giving life to every concert. The moment he steps on stage, the chaos of the noise will make you realise some youths prefer “soapy” to “reading”. Sad, but that’s the unspoken reality.
He continously poked the Nigerian Police this year , at first it was releasing a controversial song, then it became an intentional PR stunt to stay in the news daily.
Nairamarley just like Cardi B don’t need any scripted Publicity stunt to stay relevant, he is his own PR and he knows it.
I’m sharing this for those who still joke with the PR side of their work, It’s okay to put in effort and do the work but how intentional are you with your visibility?
What is your Google search like in terms of threads and media mentions?
While you are setting goals for 2020, make sure you add More Visibility to your vision board, don’t do projects and only post on social media, set funds aside for your PR as well, even if you will still ask for support, people give more value to what you pay for.
You can be making money from the things you limit to social media, but on the count of quick Google search of your name, what are the chances of you being given a seat at the table if push comes to shove?
So many investors and intending donors go the google search way before coming on your social media.
I know using Naira Marley to drive home my message probably won’t sit well with some folks, but hey the young man coined a name that depicit what many of us need more, which is “Naira” and money in general, so instead of having reservations for his person, work on having a reservoir of the currency in his name in 2020 with your visibility. 💥💥💥
