Tribune @70: Mrs. Akeredolu bags Champion of Humanity award


Wife of the Ondo state governor, Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu Akeredolu has bagged an award of Champion of Humanity at the Tribune’s Platinum awards ceremony in Lagos.
The award ceremony which was held in Muson centre Onikan Lagos was part of activities to mark the 70th anniversary of the African Newspapers of Nigeria Plc, ANN, publisher of Nigerian Tribune newspaper.
She was honoured with the award for her unprecedented humanitarian disposition and concern for family and societal development through her numerous initiatives.
According to the management of ANN Plc, Arabinrin Akeredolu, who was the only female among the recipients of the Platinum awards, was one of the few Nigerians who have been at the forefront of the empowerment of women, children and the untiring pursuit of humanity’s wellbeing.
Other awardees were, Governors of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, of Benue state, Samuel Ortom, Oyo, Seyi Makinde, Delta, Ifeanyi Okowa, and Sokoto, Aminu Tambuwal, and Senators Godswill Akpabio, Ibikunle Amosun, Abiola Ajimobi.
Also honoured were, the Chief Executive Officer of Glo network, Dr. Mike Adenuga jr, Sir Kesington Adebutu, Chief Executive Officer of Innoson motors, Innocent Ifediaso Chukwuma, and Imam Abubakar Abdullahi who rescued hundreds of his villagers irrespective of region affiliation during the herdsmen invasion in Barkin Ladi area of Plateau State.
In her remarks, the Chairman of ANN Plc, Ambassador Dr. Tokunbo Awolowo-Dosumu noted that the award was to celebrate industries and individuals that have distinguished themselves in various endeavours.
She added that the role of the media as the public watchdog wasn’t only to expose ills in the society but to also applaud and promote the good conduct of those who have served the society,  and thereby, send out the signal that good deed has a reward.
According to her, the recognition was to spur them to greater service to humanity, noting that The Nigerian Tribune has never chided away from being the voice of the people, having truth and integrity as its watchword.
Responding to the award, Mrs. Akeredolu thanked the organisation for the recognition, noting that whatever she has become today was as a result of the training she received from her father who raised her as a child and not specially as a female.
She expressed gladness that women’s efforts were now being recognised in Nigerian’s society, implying that their voices were now being heard.
