Don't miss:

Citizen Rotimi Anifowoshe writes Fashola on slow pace of work on Lagos Ibadan expressway

I want you to know that I left Ibadan by 5:00am because I wanted to beat the torturous traffic on the Expressway ( I am usually constrained to refer the road in this manner),only to find myself at a standstill at this very point i had identified earlier. As a Nigerian who is very much aware of the disposition of political appointees to service,i was tempted to jettison the idea of writing you. But,i chose to write. First,it will be said that a citizen wrote you on the state of the road assuming you haven’t been aware until now. Secondly,it keeps me busy from feeling the pains of the traffic situation.

Honourable Minister Fashola,I know you are a man of letters with the gift of oratory. I also know that your cerebral prowess tend to make you angry at those of us who are not sufficiently intelligent enough to appreciate the grammar and the great works you are doing as the nation’s Minister of Works and Housing. Sir, as it is common to hear office holders demanding the citizens to appreciate them for doing what they are appointed to do,I do want to apologise for my irreverence.

Having said that, I wish to ask you this pertinent question that most,if not all, commuters using this road would want to ask. What are you doing about the slow pace of work on the portion handle by Julius Berger? Could it be true that your ministry hasn’t called this construction company to order because of some powerful interests? I am compelled to ask you this question because I compared the pace of Julius Berger with that of RCC Construction Company that is handling the Ibadan axis of the road.

RCC has made driving from Ibadan up to Sagamu quite pleasant while Julius Berger is barging us rather with partial closures of their own portion of the road. We see more of heaps of sand with oyinbos taking selfies and studio pictures in celebration of their ingenuity at creating hills while they derive joy in forcing us to keep their company.

Honourable Minister,i read that the blockades on this Expressway will be opened temporarily on the 1st December because of the Yuletide season. If this is true,I commend your sensitivity. But Sir, it means come 2020 January,we will resume to this punishment that Julius Berger is putting us through. What a way to start a New Year! Oga Fashola, don’t be angry at me ooo. I want to suggest that you rather use your acclaimed competence to make Julius Berger expedite action on their portion of the road rather than encouraging their indolence further by giving them Christmas break. This will be the best gift you can give us for the Yuletide.

Let me thank you for the tremendous sacrifices you are making in serving us. Be sure that I will personally lead an appreciation team to your office as soon as you help us stoke the burner under Julius Berger. Sir,this is 8: 31 am and i am yet to get to the Long Bridge at Kara!!!

Do give my regards to everyone and tell your colleague, the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi that I am eagerly waiting for the commencement of the rail service to Ibadan in December as he promised.

God bless you all in the service of the Nation.

Yours in traffic
Rotimi Anifowose
