In an attempt to aid farming business in his constituency and Oke-Ogun at large, Honourable Shina Peller, a member of the House of Representatives from Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa federal constituency, on Sunday, 13th October, 2019 met with farmers from various communities in his constituency.
During the meeting, which was held in his country home, Iseyin, Hon. Peller said that he has set aside 100 acres of land to lease out to 50 farmers free of charge for a period of ten years for various kinds of farming ranging from cassava plantation, maize cropping, cocoa farming, poultry and others.
In the same vein, Hon. Peller informed the farmers that agricultural aids, storage facilities and wholesale buyers for their agricultural produce will be made available to them so as to make the farming business easier, more profitable and enticing for his constituents and the people of Oke-Ogun in general.
More importantly, Hon. Shina Peller intimated the farmers that he is already going into partnership with some financial institutions for the purpose of securing loans for serious business-minded farmers in his constituency and the region.
However, Hon. Peller emphasized on the need for proper documentation of all intending farmers that will be beneficiaries of this initiative. He explained that proper documentation and agreements are necessary so as to ensure that resources are utilized meaningfully and profitably.
Furthermore, he charged the farmers to utilise the competitive advantage that Oke-Ogun region has over others in agricultural business. “Oke-Ogun is the food basket of Oyo State and we are hugely blessed in terms of landmass suitable for agriculture, so I challenge you all to utilise the competitive advantage that our region has over others in the farming business,” Hon. Peller said.
