Femi Akintunde Johnson writes Lagos Gov on new traffic Laws

Is this massive LASTMA kick in the gut the best foot forward for Gov. Jide Sanwo-Olu?
Yes, it’s repugnant to sense for any driver to take an obvious one-way lane… In fact, he/she should be subjected to psychiatric evaluation which cost must be borne by the offender, apart from reasonable fines. Jailing anyone for traffic offence (which doesn’t involve human life) is obnoxious and grossly outdated.
Another headache, and cash-cow to disreputable elements among the enforcement officers, are those so-called “hidden” and unmarked “one-ways” entrapments known only to residents and “task-forcers”. 3 years in prison?! For driving one-way!? Which prisons?!

This may turn to a license for inpunity, extortion and general marginalisation of Lagosians. And our prisons will need IDP camps to support the already overflowing penitentiaries!

Moreso with the draconian fines! I suspect that regime of villainous fines are “fakes news” designed to spread panic… I mean, for example, FRSC that established the compulsory seat-belt regulation charges 2,000 as fine for its violation…(and most motorists largely obey the rule)… while this trendy LASTMA knock-out is…wait for it… N30,000 “per offensive belt”!
W-a-w-u!!!!
