The Action Democratic Party (ADP), Lagos State Chapter has called on Mr Babajide Sanwoolu to serve the people of Lagos State with the fear of God and not that of man.
The party wished the former Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode well in his future endeavors, thanking him for his service to Lagosians, ADP said it was not all rossy but for the fact that he managed through the crisis, and still be able to hand over peacefully, deserves commendation, stating that there is still hope for him in future to govern Lagos State.
ADP in a statement made available to journalists at its Maryland Secretariat by the State Chairman Barr Nasir Adewale Bolaji, said as Mr Akinwunmi Ambode’s tenure winds up and exchange of barton takes place, which “democratically” puts Sanwoolu forward as the constitutionally recognized governor of Lagos State, his(Sanwoolu’s) commitment must be to advance the State in all aspects, including job creation, empowerment of youth with entrepreneurship skills and everything that will uplift the State from its current situation.
ADP’s expectations include but not limited to the followings:
First of all, Mr Babajide Sanwoolu must prove to all Lagosians that he is a man of his own and not a puppet of any godfather as widely speculated.
The implementation of the newly signed minimum wage of N30,000 should be his priority, Lagos State is capable and workers must be adequately taken care of, if maximum productivity is expected from them. Both human and infrastructural developments should be key areas the governor must focus on if indeed he would want Lagosians to take him serious.
We are expecting that Sanwoolu will continue with legacy projects of the past Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode because, since it’s same APC that is still power, governance should be a continuous thing, except that they want to tell Lagosians differently. On our own part, we are building a formidable opposition party that will henceforth be monitoring his activities, where we need to inform Lagosians we would do so, so well and loud.
Since the 2019 budget has been delayed and it appears that he (Sanwoolu) would be the one to implement and execute it, he should hit the ground running, Lagos Economy should feel his impact upon inauguration.
We want the governor to revisit Lagos Water project, that basic amenities such as potable water should not be a big deal for Lagosians to enjoy, while also charging him to look at how Local Government autonomy can be implemented since they are closer to the people who need to enjoy the dividends of democracy. Roads in the interior parts of various communities must be adequately given attention because inner Lagos is an eyesore.
ADP is tasking Mr Babajide Sanwoolu to critical look at the looming crisis which is silently brewing, the issue of influx of Fulani Herdsmen, reportedly kidnapping people for ransom, which is creating panic amongst the residents of the State, security of lives and properties must be another topmost priority attention must be given, to give investors confidence of a conducive business environment in the State.
ADP also remembers Kolade Johnson who was extrajudicially murdered by the police, the party tasks Sanwoolu to partner with the police in terms of training on Human Rights and awareness on the value of human lives, to mitigate against these barbaric and senseless killings of innocent residents of Lagos.
It is the expectation of all Lagosians that the new governor must work hard to pay down the huge local and foreign debts (About $1.5b) the state has been owing since they came to power in 1999, it is also expected that the governor should block leakages and stop corruption that is militating against developments of the State.
The issue of duplicity and multiple Tax on Lagosians must be urgently reviewed, the Lagos public is not happy that a consultant (Alpha beta) is taking a chunk of between 10-30% of monies they were contracted to collect as service charge, this collection software can be deployed to Lagos Internal Revenue Service (LIRS), by implication, the governor is expected to scrap Alpha Beta from the service of Lagos State.
Another area of concern is the refuse collection which requires urgent and proactive attention.
Above all, we are expecting a Lagos that will give opportunities of prosperity to all without any form of discrimination, hate or favouritism under the reign of Mr Sanwoolu, ADP concluded.
Congratulations your Excellency Mr Babajide Sanwoolu, Almighty God has placed us under your care for the next four years. Govern us well but be rest assured and Notice is hereby given that Action Democratic Party (ADP) is taking over the reign of power in Lagos State come 2023.
