SOUTH HAVEN is a new hard rock brand from Copenhagen, Denmark; driven by the soulful vocals of Nigeria’s Angel Tolani, the raw emotional power of Christine Nielsen and supported by the experience of Marc Skafte (Guitar), Mathias Frederiksen (Guitar), Stefan Elbæk (Bass) and Sebastian Stendal (Drums).
The group is also backed by an exemplary lineup of rock music producers; Jacob Hansen and Martin Pagaard (Volbeat, Amaranthe), Christoffer Stjerne (HERO), Chris Kreutzfeldt (CABAL, Ghost Iris, MØL) and Mirza Radonjica-Bang (Siamese, Helhorse) are all on board to assemble a debut album that will turn heads in Europe.
Their infectious first single, ‘Dancing In Nightmares’ dropped on May 10th, 2019. The debut single is already creating waves worldwide, a testament of what’s to come from the talented bunch. We sat down with our very own Angel Tolani to shed light on the band and her experience so far. Read the interesting conversation.
AudioInferno (Edalock): Hello Angel Tolani, how are you doing? Hope you’re having an awesome week; could you please introduce yourself and your band to AudioInferno readers.
South Haven (Angel Tolani):My name is Angel Tolani and I’m a singer in the Band South Haven. I’m 21 and I live in Copenhagen.
AudioInferno (Edalock): What inspired the band name and how did you all come together to kick start this project?
South Haven (Angel Tolani): The inspiration for the name came from our band rehearsal location. It’s called Sydhavn in danish which directly translates to South Garden but we just put and e in there and South Haven. The guys have been working on this for three years and I joined late last year and we all worked very hard to get it to where it is right now.
AudioInferno (Edalock): To our knowledge you’re Nigerian, are your band mates all Danish? Is South Haven a multi-national collaboration?
South Haven (Angel Tolani): I’m fully Nigerian. All my band mates are Danish, so I wouldn’t say we are multinational. Maybe bi national cause it’s only two countries
AudioInferno (Edalock): South Haven’s first single titled “Dancing in Nightmares” dropped on Friday the 10th of May. How important a step forward has this being for your band and what is the next step?
South Haven (Angel Tolani): It’s very important cause it’s our debut single and we really wanted people to get a good feel of the band as first impressions do matter. As for the next step, everyone’s gonna have to wait and see but I guarantee it’s amazing.
AudioInferno (Edalock): From the video, the band has two vocalists. Is this a running theme and how did you both create your fantastic chemistry?
South Haven (Angel Tolani): We’re both great friends so we work very well together and it’s great and yeah we’re gonna be two vocalists on everything.
AudioInferno (Edalock):You mentioned on social media, your band has been booked to perform live for shows before the debut of your single. How has the experience been? What is your most memorable experience so far?
South Haven (Angel Tolani): Well we haven’t actually performed yet as our first show is in about 2 weeks but it’s exciting. Stressful but exciting
AudioInferno (Edalock): Do you seen your band touring Europe, around the world and possibly Africa in the nearest future?
South Haven (Angel Tolani): Definitely.
AudioInferno (Edalock):You have your own personal music projects and you’ve released a few songs in the past, are your personal projects on hold? And how do you juggle your day job with music?
South Haven (Angel Tolani):Right now, the band is my personal project so that has my full attention. I juggle just fine. I’m good at adapting and adjusting but I’m just a little bit more tired than usual if anything at all has changed.
AudioInferno (Edalock):It’s been wonderful hearing your experience so far, we look forward to seeing more from your band. Do you have final thoughts you’d like to share with us and your long list of Nigerian Rock music fans rooting for you?
South Haven (Angel Tolani):First things first, listen and stream our new single. Thank you for the love and support, I can’t wait to share what we’ve been working on with you and I hope everyone loves it.
