As we continue to clamour for youth inclusion in politics, we can draw inspiration from how well the youth have fared in other positions of authority. The quest to offer the youth a platform didn’t just start today; the enactment of the ‘Not Too Young To Run Bill’ is only to legitimise the process and give it a constitutional backing.
Instances abound of how well the youths have fared in their various fields and positions of authority that have been bequeathed on them.
The Alafin of Oyo Kingdom was selected at age 32, Awujale became the Paramount king of Ijebuland at 25 and for all the decades they have superintended over their kingdom, development in both human and infrastructures have been the hallmark of the once rustic dukedom.
Same can be said of the current Elegushi of Ikate Kingdom, Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi, Kusenla III.
Since being selected as the King of Ikate-Elegushi at about nine years ago, Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi has brought tremendous transformation to Ikate Kingdom. Basic infrastructures are constantly being put in place for the people of this part of Lagos, at the instance of the Kabiyesi.
The 2km freedom road, Ikate Primary Health Centre as well as the various residential estates, springing up daily on this axis, are testament to the leadership and commitment to development of the current Elegushi.
As Elegushi celebrates another birthday, the entire people of this Kingdom wish him good health, longer life and more wisdom in piloting the affairs of Ikate land.
Happy birthday, Kabiyesi.
