ELECTION NOT DO-OR-DIE AFFAIR IN EKITI SAYS COS, OMOLEYE

The Chief of Staff to the Governor of Ekiti State, Hon Biodun Omoleye, has hailed the people of Ekiti State for trooping out en masse to support and vote for all candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State during the just concluded general elections.

Omoleye stated this during a chat with journalists in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday. He said Ekiti people, through the election, demonstrated their love for the State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi who has demonstrated his commitment to their well being through a number of ways.

Hon Omoleye added that Ekiti people through the peaceful atmosphere that pervaded the election period have shown that election is not a do-or-die affair in the state as nobody can subvert the collective will of the people.

According to Omoleye, “There are grounds for comparison. We had elections in 2015 conducted in the state and the way the opposition used federal might then was shameful. The last election that we had under Governor Fayemi was peaceful. There was no case of arrest or intimidation. The entire state was relaxed as people fully expressed their minds through the ballot, and overwhelmingly gave the APC their supports. We don’t have to win through crooked means, we are not a product of such brigandage”, he said.

Omoleye also thanked Ekiti workers for standing by the Governor who has prioritized their welfare by paying salaries promptly and also provide other welfare packages for them.

“We cannot talk about the success of the election without appreciating the contribution and support of Ekiti traders, artisans, transport unions, market women and non-indigenous ethnic groups in the State for rallying support for the APC”, Omoleye said, adding that the Fayemi-led government will ensure that the dividends of democracy are delivered to them all.

“This is the government of the people, for the people and by the people. The governor is a true activist and democrat. He and all those working with him understand and appreciate the concept of civil relations.

“The benefits of having a government in both State and at the national are enormous and you cannot quantify it. I want to assure everyone that within the next couple of years, Ekiti will be a sight to behold unlike the days of the past. All moribund contracts are now being reconsidered. I’m confident that the synergy between the Governor and the President will bring a lot of goodies to Ekiti State”, Omoleye said.

While thanking traditional rulers for maintaining peace and order in their domains, the Chief of staff said such effort by monarchs contributed immensely to the peaceful conduct of the polls.

Omoleye also thanked religious leaders in the State for preaching peace before and after the election; adding that youths should be commended for not allowing themselves to be used as thugs to disrupt the smooth conduct of the elections.
