I welcome you to this historic conference
We are all aware of what is happening in the country. The outcome of the February 16, 2019 Presidential election, is very crucial and important to Nigeria and the rest of the world, particularly to the stability of Africa. It is on record that out of every six Africans one is a Nigerian.
Therefore, it is imperative that Nigeria organizes a peaceful, free, transparent, credible and violence free election. This will restore the confidence our people have in democracy and deepen it.
Today Nigeria is passing through a difficult moment; intra and inter-ethnic conflict, insurgency, corruption fueled by the greed of the deep pocket elites.
In 1999, God rescued Nigeria from the firm grip of military dictatorship and for 16 years Nigeria was in the hand of one political party at the centre.
The running of the affairs of the nation was under the control of the conservatives, during which period the commanding heights of the National economy was sold off to the powerful who had acquired the needed funds mostly through corrupt practices.
The entire nation was ridden with crisis. We should realize that there is a direct nexus between corruption and violence, the gap between the poor and the rich became wider, frustration, social dislocation, unemployment etc.
In 2015, Nigerians resisted reckless feudal domination and exploitation of the mass of the people and for the first time in Nigerian political history, the opposition defeated the ruling party.
In the last four years the custodians of the vanguished dominant historical forces had struggled in vain to “overthrow” the present government, whereas a greater percentage of Nigerians with clear ideological commitment, vision on how to address the Nigerian problem resisted them.
This party of change, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has in stock progressive cadres, President Mohammadu Buhari, the National Chairman of the party Comrade Adam Oshiomole who was the President of the Nigerian Labour Congress, (NLC), and the National leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and others who had in the past exhibited courage in the face of political tribulations.
Today the failed attempts by these mongers who deeply injured and raped Nigeria had plotted and realign to capture power with the aim to further entrench looting and corruption. In their struggle to capture power they have largely invoked religion and ethnicity as instruments to help them consummate their evil plot.
To the Igbos they are invoking their anger that you have not ruled Nigeria since independence, today, they only offered Ndigbo the position of Vice Presidential candidate, an office an Ibo had occupied between 1979 and 1983 (40 years ago).
To the North east the conservative party is telling them that no Northeasterner had ever ruled Nigeria since 1960. Good enough, the majority of Nigerians are today informed to differentiate between falsehood and truth, between fact and fiction and between good and evil.
The progressive elements are today sharpened in ideological thesis and had resolved to address and respond to the falsehood and tissue of lies arising from the claim of those who robed Nigerians and raped her at infancy on the return to democratic rule for 16 years. Unfortunately, some people have a very short memory. They have suddenly forgotten about the attack on Odi, Odi-Oma, the high-profile killings and assassinations, the conversion of elections into a do-or-die affair and the waste associated with governance at the national level.
These quest is to also to destroy the fledging bond of unity between the South West (Yoruba) and the Igbo progressives, thereby invoking the dying spirit of distrust between the Yoruba and the Igbo that was responsible for why the progressives failed to win elections in the first and second republic.
Ibos, Yoruba, Hausa/Fulani, Tiv, Nupe, Ijaw, Ibibio etc.. must all unite to re-elect President Mohammadu Buhari as that will ens
