Is the Nigerian Police under Governor Amosun?
It has become pertinent to ask the question on who is in charge of the Nigerian Police?
We are all witnesses to the ignoble violence that occurred at the Presidential Rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held on of Monday, February 11. 2019. Security was obviously compromised as the supposed rally was infiltrated by many other hugs who posed as members of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM).
For the first time in the history of President Buhari’s campaign, he and other top leaders of the APC, including the National Party Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomole, National Leader of the Party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former and serving governors who attended the event were pelted with various objects allegedly on the instigation of Governor Ibikunle Amosun.
The sad event which shocked the whole world and embarrass the people of Ogun State at home and abroad happened
In the full glare of TV Cameras and in broad daylight.
The Inspector General of Police swiftly issued a signal transferring the Commissioner Ahmed Iliyasu to Special Duties at the Force Headquarters. The signal titled TH.5361/FS/FHQ/ABJ/V.2/647 was dated February 11, 2019. COMPOL Olugbenga Adeyanju was named in the signals as CP Elections for Ogun.
As at the time of writing this, the Elections CP has arrived Ogun, but the redeployed CP has refused to handover, insisting he is still in charge. Of course, Governor Amosun has kept assuring the CP that he won’t be touched. The OC SARS SP. Mba transferred to MOPOL 48 Port-Harcourt Harcourt since last week has also refused to move to his new nation.
So, who is in charge of the Nigerian Police?
It would be recalled that the APC in Ogun State has severally raised alarm on recent insecurity and growing violence in Ogun State, was specially since October 2018. The Party also called for independent panel to be set up by the IGP to investigate the violent incidents.
Till date, not even an acknowledgement has been received from the Police. The implication of this is that the Police, as he has been boasting, is under Governor Ibikunle Amosun and nothing will happen even if hell falls.
This scenario, in fact, justifies those who have been campaigning vigorously against State Police.
