The 16th day of October, 2018 will remain indelible in the annals of our history as a State. The historic day was when Students, Artisans, Farmers, our noble Senior citizens in their number elected John Folorunsho Kayode Fayemi. A day a demagogue was replaced.
JKF as commonly referred to was unequivocal in his maiden address as the Executive Governor of Ekiti State. Dr Fayemi in his address hinged his transformation and restoration intention on four core pillars. The elements are: Knowledge Economy, Social Investments, Agriculture/ Rural Development and Infrastructure/ industrial Development. It is gratifying to note that he has kept religious faith with his maiden pledge
In his speech, the governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi tagged the new administration the restoration of core values. Indeed, after the inauguration, the government swung into action. It signed an executive order to abolish the illegal fees paid by pupils in schools. This fees was imposed on pupils in both private and public schools. It brought serious litigation between the state and the Catholic diocese of Ekiti under the nose of the last administration. The Fayemi government announced through an executive order that the levies be abolished.
Showing to the people of the state that his government has come to provide succor for the bad leadership style of the last administration, Governor Fayemi directed that salaries of workers in the state be paid as and when due. This feat, not worth being celebrated but considering the crass ineptitude of the last administration, it was a thing of joy for workers to celebrate as Ekiti economy has thereafter received major boost.
Again in Education sector, within the first 100 days of governor Kayode Fayemi, 13,000 WAEC and 3000 jambs forms have been obtained for students in public schools and Ekiti youth respectively. The last time this was done was during his first term administration. Successive Government did not pay for WAEC and Jamb forms. This shows the premium he placed on Education in the state.
The government in its 100 days in office have given much support for due process with the Reinstatement of Permanent secretaries illegally sacked by previous government. This has further given workers freedom and more security in their Jobs. This is a wonderful gesture the workers in the state appreciates.
January 19th, the Pensioners in Ekiti State lauded the Fayemi administration for prompt payment of pensions. The pensioners in the state now receive pensions same time with civil servants. This new feat was achieved with the skills deployed by the commissioner of Finance in the state.
In Transport and Security, the administration has been able to Reposition the Ekiti State traffic management agency with effective deployment of personnel to roads within Ekiti to ease free movement of vehicles. Peace Corps which was abolished by the last administration was also reinstated.
It is no doubt that youths constitutes two third of the Nigerian population and essentially, the interest of the youth does not have a significant place in our politics and programmes. Governor Fayemi realising that the capacity of youths involvement has an implication on the growth of the country’s development because of their energy has given the youths remarkable sense of belonging with over 40 percent constituting his appointments. The appointment of O’Seun Odewale popularly known as Egghead as special Adviser and Director General of Bureau of Public Procurement, Ayodeji Adegbite as SCOP of the Governor and many others in the Government Protocol department has gone down well with Ekiti youths with the consistent praises on the Governor.
Another laudable programme Governor Fayemi has brought to Ekiti is the Federal Government initiative of School feeding program and traderMoni. These wonderful programmes have brought the federal government presence to the State.
