Ogun politicians have been advised to take a cue from the developmental template laid down by the immediate past Governor of Ogun State and Director General, Atiku Presidential Campaign Organisation (APCO), Otunba Gbenga Daniel, in which the people savoured dividends of democracy in every sector of governance.
Speaking at the annual New Year Interdenominational Thanksgiving Service held at the palatial residence of Otunba Subomi Balogun, the Olori Omo Oba, Ijebuland and Asiwaju of Ijebu Christians in Ijebu Ode on Tuesday, Rev. Richard Oladele, the Chairman, Christians Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ijebu Ode Area, counseled politicians, especially those who engage in politics of bitterness to the detriment of provision of basic amenities across all zones to desist from such and follow the glowing example of Otunba Daniel who set an enviable pace in governance while at the helm of affairs in Ogun State. Daniel, he said, is an outstanding politician who raised the bar in governance which should be emulated. He therefore pleaded with the former Governor to tutor upcoming politicians aspiring for positions of authority on basic elements in the day-to-day running of government at all levels. Rev. Oladele also advocated engagement of Christians in politics because they will rule with fear of God in their minds.
In the same vein, His Grace, the Most Rev, Dr. Paul Onanuga, Bishop of Ijebu Diocese and Archbishop of Southwest of the First African Church Mission admonished youths to shy away from violence and any form of behavior that can disrupt peace as the nation prepares for general elections in weeks to come.
In a special prayer to prevent any form of civil disturbance during the elections, Most Rev. Onanuga urged the congregation to pray to Almighty God to soften the minds of evil-doers who may wish to truncate a smooth transition.
Thanking the clergymen, monarchs, High Chiefs and dignitaries who attended the occasion, Otunba Subomi Balogun, who is also the founder of First City Monument Bank (FCMB), gave thanks to Almighty God for His grace to witness a New Year.
He also recognized Otunba Daniel specially, referring to him as the ‘first born’ of the family in whom he is well pleased.
Going down the memory lane, he reminisced on how he was made the Asiwaju of Ijebu Christians by movers and shakers of Ijebuland who saw in him, the sterling qualities of his predecessor, Chief Timothy Adeola Odutola. “I was greatly humbled by the collective decision of the people at that time and shall forever remain grateful to Almighty God for the honour to serve Him in that capacity.
Dignitaries present at the occasion include traditional rulers across Ijebuland,
HRH. Oba Y. O Adekoya, the Dagburewe of Idowa, the Olisa of Ijebu Ode; Oba Rasheed O. Adesanya, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, Olorogun Sonny Kuku, Otunba Wahab Osinusi, Alhaji Agboola Alausa; Balogun of Ijebu land and Prince Gboyega Isiaka among other eminent personalities.
