This Governor of the State of Osun, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola, has presented 2019 Budget Estimates of the sum of One Hundred and Fifty Two Billion, Seven Hundred and Fifty Six Million, Eighty Eighth Thousand, Eight Hundred and Thirty Naira(#152, 756, 088, 830. 00), described as Budget of Hope.
The 2019 budget which was reduced with about Twenty Seven(#27b)Billion Naira as against 2018 budget has about #92 billion naira as Capital which is 65.43% of the total sum while Personnel and other Recurrent Expenditures takes about #37 billion and #16 billion naira which is 24.18% and 10.39% of the budget size respectively.
With this, the budget, indeed can be said to be a budget of hope as it is capital development driven in nature for the benefits of the people of Osun and to continue the developmental stride of his predecessor in office, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.
Summarising the Capital Expenditure Sector by Sector, Infrastructure took the lion shared of the budget with about #25 billion naira (27.11%) followed by Education of over #10 billion naira (11.36%) and Health Sector with about #5 billion naira (5.05%) while other sectors like Agriculture, Commerce and Industry as well as Environment, Information and Communication were adequately favourably considered in the budget for next fiscal year, 2019.
The Governor, therefore, appealed for the speedy consideration and passage of the money bill into law which he promised to faithfully implement to the last letter when finally passed into law.
Commenting, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Najeem Salaam, assured the good people of the state of smooth and speedy passage of the budget within a record time stipulated by the Constitution for the growth and timely benefit by the citizenry of the state in term of dividends of democracy that the progress party is well known for.
The Speaker who earlier scolded the members of the National Assembly over their conduct during the presentation of 2019 budget by President Mohammadu Buhari asked them to copy the State of Osun Assembly in term of conduct and character in the discharge of their expected duties saying Osun Assembly is equal to none in the service to the father land.
Other Hon. Members who commented agreed in their various contributions that Governor Oyetola will perform creditably well in the development of the state considering the fact that the budget is a people oriented one with 80% patronage of the local contents.
In his remarks, the Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Hon. kamil Oyedele, expressed confidence in the Governor to deliver saying he is a worthy successor being an engine room of the last administration and a board room man per excellent calling on the people of the state to support him to deliver.
