The Kwara Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said the attack on the party’s candidate in Saturday’s by-election in the state has exposed the PDP as a violent and desperate party.
The APC Candidate in the by-election into the vacant House of Representatives seat for the Ekiti/Irepodun/Isin/Oke-ero Federal constituency, Mr Tunji Olawuyi, aka Ajuloopin, was attacked by gunmen at Idofin, in Kwara South, in the early hours of Thursday.
”All fingers are pointing at the PDP, the party that has been threatening fire and brimstone ahead of the election, and a party that has a well-known proclivity for violence.
”Yet, the PDP has been the one accusing the APC of importing thugs into the state ahead of the election,” the Kwara APC Chairman, Hon. Bashir Bolarinwa, said in a statement in Omu-Aran on Thursday.
Hon. Bolarinwa called on the security agencies to urgently arrest and bring to book the perpetrators of the attack, and to clamp down on all those perpetrating violence in the state.
”It is common knowledge that Kwara PDP thrives on violence, including assassinations and armed robbery. The party also has disdain for free, fair, credible and violence-free elections.
”It is in the light of this that we are calling on the security agencies to tighten security across the state, especially in Kwara South where the election will be held on Saturday,” the Kwara APC Chairman said.
He appealed to the teeming APC members and supporters in the state to remain calm but vigilant.
