I knew something was in the air ! as I observed slowly from the sidelines the movement primarily from Apo legislative quaters where the legislators lived! The movements also came from a lot of quarters! And it was one direction they were all heading! They were heading to the residence of the then vice president Abubakar Atiku!!
Obj was embattled. He was rounding up his first term and was desperately seeking a second term! You would have thought he would have been satisfied for spending 4 years as president ! But no! when you are on that seat your work never seems to have finished! You forget governance is an Unending relay race! So it’s tempting to want to run the first, second and in OBJs case a possible third leg! And what the heck if possible become life president! !
………and they all surrounded Atiku! That time his title was the Turaki! “Oga let us take this man OBJ out in the upcoming convention ‘Oga you have all the support! If you throw your hat in the ring you will defeat president obasanjo at the primaries! Look at all of us here! We are enough to swing it! ‘ as they implored Atiku to run
It was a tempting offer! Atiku had become so popular and strong! In fairness to Obj , he gave him a free hand to rove! In roving and rolling this stone was gathering moist!
Heavily laden with moist and with all this people singing in his ears, his stance towards the president had an extra bounce!
Obj began to eat humble pie! A classic case of stooping to conquer was in the offering! All of a sudden Obj realised wagons were been circled round him! This was the time to be pally pally with Atiku! He needed him on his side he could not afford a challenge!
All sorts of rumours , fables and near myths began to fly! How obj begged Atiku some even said he knelt down for him!
But in Yoruba land there is a saying which in essence meant when an oyo man ( this goes for most Yorubas when they seek something) is prostrating for you his inside may be standing up! Dubious appeal!
In the end and to many people’s disappointment! Atiku enjoyed his 15 minutes of fame and refused to challenge OBJ!
After all Obj had been fair to him, had allowed him full participation in govt! Why should he not wait another 4 years ! Then obj will gladly hand over to him so he thought! !
On the part of Obj he began to feel he had made a big mistake giving Atiku so much room ! So as soon as he won the primaries he moved to rectify that situation and a Cold War developed between him and his vice !
This is how Atiku’s current Journey began to claim the top spo!t !
Atiku rightfully deserves to embark on this journey! He has suffered lots of humiliation from his former boss primarily the name calling that followed ! In his quest he had had to change political parties ! It was convenient for he had extensive contacts everywhere!
known to be a very generous and pleasant man, some advantages were taken of him! He suffered a lot of disappointment but he kept plodding on! A quiet dogged fighter he refused to give up keeping to his principles not to harbour any bitterness towards those that renaged ‘on their agreement and turned his back on him! From Ashiwaju Tinubu to Obj he kept trying to curry their favour. As a practical politician he knew that it will take a solid alliance to make him realise his dreams!
As per Tinubu he had his own ambition and still has his own ambition, he wants to be president! ” Noting spoil ‘ a man is entitled to pursue his dreams! As per obj it kept taking him long to forgive Atiku! He had and still has his dreams! As per Obj his own now, is to be king maker and influence things from behind! ! After all he is truly the father of our democracy! He archived a rare feat of handing over from military rule to civilian rule! And came back again to be president! . The big boys including Atiku facilitated this in respect of his seniority and the role he had played!
….and so Atiku kept plodding on not giving up, riding the 
looking for that “pot of gold at the end ” bringing all his political experience to play and being extremely patient and humble in the process !
I’ve interacted with many leaders in my life and I must say Atiku stands out as one of the most humble and conciliatory!
He allows a decent exchange, patient and a deep listener! He exudes positive vibes! An extremely pleasant man and highly intelligent! And experienced!! He had been bitten so many times that he had now developed an antidote for political poisoning!
So when he finally manuverd himself into becoming one of the presidential aspirant within the pdp party, Obj began to succumb and behind the scene begun to pull strings on his behalf! Most people may just think Atiku just got up and went to Baba OBJs house yesterday! Obj is not a man you stumble on You have to have approval and unknown to many obj had now fully approved Atiku even before the primaries and began to look his way! In a rare act of forgiveness!
Some will ask in the end did he really have a choice not to forgive?
Yesterday fairness came finally home to roost!
This is why we must be careful the decision we take in the interactions among ourselves !
God is watching and in his observation there is what is called karma ! Karma usually occurs with a measure of negativity but it is steeped in the principle of ‘what you sow is what you reap !
A long time ago Atiku sowed understanding and fairness towards obj ! Yesterday he began to reap the returns as per obj!
I am happy for Atiku. Very happy, for he has taught the lesson of humility and patience steeped in fairness ! He is a candidate worth supporting and if you peat him against the current president Buhari He shades him by far as per a very understanding , astute and forward thinking person!
He cares and understands the human individual! If he becomes president God willing he will mobilise the best brains to rescue this country from its continuous slide into hardship! Nigeria and Nigerians again will have that smile back on its face ! !
For the past 4 years Nigerians become a country of pain ! Brother against brother! Hatred spreading, no laughter in our houses , high insecurity, low economic activities all in the quest of change !
When our president is addressing the nation he deposits his body language with Nigerians it’s all about accusations, threat of incarceration blames and veiled name calling, but with Atiku laughter and happiness steeped in hope will return to the Nigerian household ! Our current president is busy branding some as thieves while he himself ironically is surrounded by shady men!! indeed ironical to say the least!
We all can see already that the prospect of Atiku being the next president of Nigeria is breeding hope into the Nigerian household!
The lastt 4 years has been hard for Nigerians !
Ordinary Nigerians, artisans etc have had things very hard everybody with a frown on their faces, abusive, suspicious of one another laced with very un- Nigerian behaviour !
The initial hope has turned into hopelessness as it has become obvious that this govt has completely lost its way The only thing that can keep Buhari now in power depends on the number of ignorant voters left !
And of course rigging through inec ! But now this has become a very dangerous path to thread as the comity of nations have now come in strong again behind the scenes !
If it appears that the election results are not fair then the whole country particularly this current govt will be in serious trouble ! They simply will refuse to recognise the results and the govt! and we know what that means ! It will have the possibility of reversing our democracy ! February 2019 is going to be one of the most precarious months since the Aburi i conference days, held in Ghana before the breakout of civil war in Nigeria !
The elections must not only be fair it must be seen to be fair ! But if it is the same pattern we have been witnessing then our democracy will be in grave danger ! The country again cannot afford to allow a few power hungry individuals to take decisions that will cause problems for our nation !
All in all the choice of Atiku is a very refreshing one it gives us hope that Nigeria can be a 
nation again ! How long do we want to keep accusing ourselves as “pots keep calling kettle black ” It is now time to begin to show respect and love among ourselves and I believe Atiku as president will bring back the good old days of happiness, love ,respect and genuine progress to our dear country!
