Governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday expressed satisfaction at the conduct of the primary election organized by the State chapter of the party.
Sanwo-Olu told journalists after he voted at Eyekole ward E3, St. Stephen’s Primary school, Adeniji Adele, Lagos that from the situation report, the process has been peaceful and well-coordinated.
‘’from what I have seen at my ward here and the information filtering in from across the State where voting is taking place, the process is going on in an orderly manner.’’ Sanwo-Olu said.
The governorship aspirant who expressed confidence of emerging victorious in the election, said that he has what it takes to defeat his opponent, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode in the exercise.
‘’the large turnout of voters is an attestation to the fact that Lagos citizens and indeed APC members want democracy institutionalized in our State.’’
‘’We’ve always clamoured for participatory democracy and I think that the direct primaries, ordered by our party is a good way to ensure that everyone takes part in a process that will bring in democratically elected representatives of the people.’’
Speaking on the modalities adopted by the party, Sanwo-olu said the open ballot system remains the best method to test popularity of contestants in an election of this nature.
Sanwo-Olu voted in company with his wife, Dr. Mrs. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, his ward chairman Mr. Saheed Olowoguneshin and other ward executives. Sanwo-Olu was later joined by Chairman of Lagos Island East Local Council Development Authority, Mr. Kamal Bashua.
