Deputy Speaker of the Lagos State House of the 8 th Assembly, Honorable Wasiu
Eshinlokun, early in life, started to show a head for serving others, and an eye for
public service, and this earned him the required trust of his people, needed to
progress faster in his political quest.
In 1990, Eshinlokun was elected vice chairman of the defunct Social Democratic
Party, SDP, ward C1 in Isale Eko, he served as Organizing Secretary, of the UNP in
1995. He served in 1995/96 as Publicity Secretary of the UNCP, in Lagos Island
Local Government.
Since the beginning of the 4 th republic, Hon. Eshinlokun has been actively involved
in driving the political affairs of Lagos State. Between 1999 – 2003, he served in
various committees of the assembly, either as Chairman or member. From Business
and Rules Committee (Chairman), Commerce and Industry, Environment and Planning
(Chairman), Committee on works and Infrastructure (Member), Sports and Youths
Development (Member), Committee on Agriculture (Member).
Eshinlokun has scored several political points as legislator, sponsoring many bills
that became passed into law. Most notably of these bills was the CONSTITUENCY
PROJECTS DEVELOPMENT BILL. This bill was laudable, and has since been
adopted a model, across the country.
Continuing his treads on the political terrain, he became appointed in 2014, as
Senior Special Assistant on Legislative and Political Matters to Governor Bola
Ahmed Tinubu.
In 2008, he served under H.E. Babatunde Fashola (SAN) as Secretary to the
Lagos State Micro Finance Institution. He moved on to serve the people of Lagos
Island Local Government as Chairman for two terms between 2008 and 2014.
As chairman, some of the achievements he recorded included; Buiding the
Ansarudeen Primary School, Alakoro, Elegbata Junior School, Rehabilitation of
other schools within constituency, construction of over 80 roads.
He provided school kits including textbooks, uniform, school bags, Uniforms and so
on for students under the My Complete Student program; he also had a program
targeted at the aged with medical care for them.
Honorable Eshinlokun served as State Party Secretary of All Progressives
Congress, APC, in 2014, and held the position until 2015, when he became elected
as member of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Current bills being championed by Eshinlokun are; (a) A bill for a law to Establish
the Local Government Economic Planning and Development Board in Lagos State and
For Connected Purposes. (b.) Bill For A Law To Repeal and Re-Enact The Lagos
State Local Government Service Commission Law and For Connected Purposes. (c)A
Bill To Amend The Lagos State Public Finance Laws 2011.
Honorable Eshinlokun’s vast experience in public service has positioned him as one
of the brightest minds making Lagos State work with sound legislation.
